Proverbs 26:5 (Amplified Bible)

Answer a [self-confident] fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes and conceit.

Proverbs 26:5 (New King James Version)

Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.

Proverbs 26:5 (Contemporary English Version)

But if you answer any fools, show how foolish they are, so they won't feel smart.

A. Answer a fool according to his folly.

"Answer a [self-confident] fool according to his folly,"

The fool is an unbeliever who keeps on going on his ways, even rebuked, reproved and corrected by GOD'S WORDS.

Fool or "kesyl" in the Hebrew language meaning: "stupid, silly". Avoid such person, it's not worth to discuss with them, for you will only gain more enemies rather than friends that you can lead to the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

What is a fool in the bible?

1. Simple ones - who loves their simple ways and won't listen to the bible

Proverbs 1:22 (Amplified Bible)

How long, O simple ones [open to evil], will you love being simple? And the scoffers delight in scoffing and [self-confident] fools hate knowledge?

2. Stupid - leaves their wealth to strangers

Psalms 49:10 (Amplified Bible)

For he sees that even wise men die; the [self-confident] fool and the stupid alike perish and leave their wealth to others.

Psalms 92:6 (Amplified Bible)

A man in his rude and uncultivated state knows not, neither does a [self-confident] fool understand this:

3. Scoffers - they hate knowledge and delights in their scoffing.

Proverbs 1:22 (Amplified Bible)

How long, O simple ones [open to evil], will you love being simple? And the scoffers delight in scoffing and [self-confident] fools hate knowledge?

4. Thoughtless ones - they can't understand even with their hearts.

Proverbs 8:5 (Amplified Bible)

O you simple and thoughtless ones, understand prudence; you [self-confident] fools, be of an understanding heart.

5. Self-confident man - stay away from self-conceited persons you will never find knowledge on his lips.

Proverbs 14:7 (Amplified Bible)

Go from the presence of a foolish and self-confident man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips.

Proverbs 15:7 (Amplified Bible)

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge [sifting it as chaff from the grain]; not so the minds and hearts of the self-confident and foolish.

B. Show them from the WORD OF GOD how foolish they are.

"lest he be wise in his own eyes and conceit."

ILLUSTRATION:

I had the honor or torture of meeting a fool, he's an owner of a gym, but the problem is he told me that he has his own "secret" religion about GOD where he talks to GOD directly and GOD answers him, and he wanted me to read his book made by GOD, if I can understand it. I asked where is this book that is higher than the bible in authority? He told me it's tattoeed in my back. So I just laugh from within myself and left. I will find no wisdom on his lips.

Proverbs 26:12 (Amplified Bible)

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes and conceit? There is more hope for a [self-confident] fool than for him.

Proverbs 28:11 (Amplified Bible)

The rich man is wise in his own eyes and conceit, but the poor man who has understanding will find him out.

Romans 11:25 (Amplified Bible)

Lest you be self-opinionated (wise in your own conceits), I do not want you to miss this hidden truth and mystery, brethren: a hardening (insensibility) has [temporarily] befallen a part of Israel [to last] until the full number of the ingathering of the Gentiles has come in,

Isaiah 5:21 (Amplified Bible)

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and prudent and shrewd in their own sight!
