Signs, Signs

John 6:30-35 Monte T. Brown

Introduction:

How shall we regard Jesus Christ?

Is he to be thought of as the best of men, or may we worship him as God?

Was he the greatest of prophets, or is he also the Messiah, the predicted Savior of the world?

Does it really matter how we regard him?

Is it true that our attitude toward him is a test of character, and the belief in him affects life and determines destiny?

Has there been enough proof to warrant thrust in him?

Can we truly say that he is the Son of God?

Can we say that he is the true manna from heaven?

Scripture

30 Therefore they said to Him, "What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?

31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.' "

32 Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

34 Then they said to Him, "Lord, give us this bread always."

35 And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. John 6:30-35

Signs, Signs

Signs, Signs there everywhere, on the roads, on the trees, in the buildings, on cars, on tools and on toys.

Signs are everywhere!

We live in an age of signs.

Signs that say do this, don’t do this.

See this not that, by this, shop here, live here, die there.

America today could not live without signs.

When the clouds get dark it’s a sign of a storm.

When the birds fly south it’s a sign of winter.

We could spend hours talking about signs, but I want to talk about the signs for Christians.

Seeking Signs

The Pharisees sought signs, the signs they wanted where the signs of miracles to confirm their faith.

Look again at our text; 30 Therefore they said to Him, "What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You?

Seeing Signs

Today we have a lot of Pharisees around wanting a sign, to confirm their faith.

The Bible tells us in Luke 16:28-31 that the world would not believe even if they did have a sign.

They had Moses and the prophets and if one from the grave was to come they still would not have believed.

I could preach for God every minute of my life telling about the love of Christ, about his blood and Calvary, and his great works and still there would be some that would not hear.

Why is it so hard to believe that someone loves us, so much He gave his life for us?

Jesus Christ is the true sign and he is the true manna sent from heaven.

There are signs all around us showing us that there is a Christ, yet they that are lost will not look and will not listen to the signs.

We find that the whole Bible is covered with signs.

The Old Testament prophets relied on signs.

Signs from the Old Testament pointed toward the coming of Christ.

When the scribes and Pharisees asked Jesus for a sign, he assured them that no sign was to be given them except the sigh of Jonah.

Jonah’s experience in the fish was to portray Christ’s burial and resurrection.

Even today we can rely on signs that tell us Christ is coming again look around the time is drawing near.

Christ Jesus is coming again!

Revelation tells us that before Christ returns there will be sings in the heavens, in the stars, the moon, and the sun.

As we look around us today we see that everyone is looking for a sign of His coming.
