Summary: How is it possible to give thanks both for and in all things?

How is it possible to give thanks both for and in all things?

Every time God invites us to always give thanks both for and in everything, He makes it clear that this applies only when we are filled with His Spirit – under the Spirit’s influence and control, which is abiding in Christ and which is allowing His peace to rule moment by moment in our hearts. Because when we are in that sweet place of His presence we are always in His will, in other words we are now called according to His purpose and therefore all things are indeed working together for our good – no wonder then as long as we remain in that good place (in Him) it is definitely possible to give thanks in and for everything. When we are not under the Holy Spirit’s control we are in the flesh where we cannot please God (Rom 8:8) and we are strongly subject to the influence and sway of wicked spirits (1 John 5:19) – not much to be thankful for there!

Eph 5:18-21

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; (continually under the Holy Spirit’s influence)

19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name (and nature) of our Lord Jesus Christ;

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. KJV

1 Thess 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always,

17 Pray without ceasing (remain in unbroken fellowship with God in the spirit),

18 In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God (abiding) in Christ Jesus for you. NKJV

Col 3:15

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. NKJV

Rom 8:28

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. NKJV
