The Christmas miracle is the story of a Child that was born in a cave to a virgin named Mary, contrary to the laws of nature. This Child lived in poverty and reared in obscurity. He did not travel extensively. Only once did He leave the country in which He was born when He, during His childhood, ran for His life into Egypt to escape Herod. He possessed neither wealth nor influence. His relatives were inconspicuous. They were uninfluential and had neither training nor formal education. In infancy, He startled a king. In childhood, He startled and puzzled the doctors. In manhood, He ruled the course of nature. He walked upon the billows of the Sea of Galilee as if they were pavement, and He hushed the raging sea with three simple words, "Peace, be still".

He healed the multitudes without medicine and made no charge for His service. He never wrote a book. And yet, all the libraries of the world cannot hold the books that have been written about Him to explain His glorious life. He never wrote a song, and yet, He has furnished the theme for more songs than all the songwriters have ever written combined. He never founded a college, but all the schools put together cannot boast of having as many students as this Man. He never practiced medicine, and yet, He has healed more broken hearts than all the doctors far and near. He never marshaled an army, nor drafted a soldier, nor fired a gun, and yet, millions have followed Him with peace that surpasses all understanding. Every seventh day, the wheels of commerce cease their turning, and multitudes find a place of worship to bow their knee before the Lord Jesus Christ. The names of past proud statesmen of Greece and Rome have come and gone, but the Name of this Man abounds more and more. Through time, we have passed 2,000 years between our generation and the scene of His crucifixion, but yet, He lives with power and great glory.

Let's read Matthew 1:18-21, "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: after His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with Child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, 'Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call his Name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins'".

Father God, thank you for the birth of your precious Son. Thank you that He has redeemed us and set us free from the prison of the prince of darkness. Let us rejoice today with joy that's unspeakable and full of glory because He lives and reigns. And the best is yet to be. In Jesus' name, we pray. And all of God's children said, amen.

Christmas is the celebration of a child. Isaiah 9:6 says, "For unto us a Child is born, and unto us a Son is given. And the government shall be upon His shoulders. And His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace." There are seven sermons in that one verse. But let's focus on the Name of Jesus. His Name is above every name, by virtue of His accomplishment. All high-sounding titles, which earthly commanders have given themselves historically, were given to gratify their vanity and their ego. Alexander the Great is a high-sounding title for a man who died at the age of 32, probably with a sexual disease. He was not great because he could not conquer himself. Herod the great is a lofty title for a man who murdered nine out of ten of his wives.

Think about that. And the day that he died, he ordered his kingdom to execute his oldest son the day he died so that Israel would have a reason to mourn. Israel hated Herod because he was a monster. He had a lofty title, but he was a cold-blooded killer. Today, he screams for mercy in the fires of hell. Herod the great? I don't think so. There is one Man Who walked across the stage of human history Whose greatness is greater than the human tongue can tell. He is the great "I am". He is the Great Physician. And He is the Great Shepherd Who guides and provides. Never in human history was there a Child that was born a living God from the womb of a virgin, but Jesus was. Never in human history was there a Man wounded by Satan, and yet, He crushed Satan. Jesus did that at the cross. Never in human history was there One Who was the Savior of men, yet He was crucified by men.
