The Colors of Christmas

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr Kyfingers@aol.com

TEXT:

Luke 2:7 And Mary brought forth her first borned son and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for him in the inn.

I have been asked what the colors of Christmas lights mean to me... I do an illustrated sermon, I have C9 light bulbs (the big bulbs) in all the colors listed below, two each. I also have 32 shiny glass ornaments the same colors, different people either screw in the light bulb, or place the ornament on the tree as I discuss that color. I have used these over the years. If you have trouble finding the color, I just paint the colors on light bulbs and the shiny ornaments. This requires some effort, but this builds a lesson to be discussed each Christmas. Here we go... by Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

1.RED LIGHTS REPRESENT THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST, MY SAVIOR AND LORD.

Heb. 9:22 ... and without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.

1 John 1:7 ... and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses from all sin.

2. BLACK LIGHTS REPRESENT SIN AND DISHARMONY WITH GOD. Normally we see few black lights at Christmas time, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

But occasionally we see a black light to remind us not to break God’s heart nor His commandments.

Black and light are not normally together, as black is the absence of light.

3. WHITE LIGHTS REPRESENTS THE PURITY OF JESUS, AND THE CLEANSING POWER OF THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB.

Psa. 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: WASH ME, and I shall be whiter than snow.

A good point on white is there is a big difference between whitewashing, just covering the dirt, and washing white.

WE WILL ALSO HAVE WHITE ROBES IN HEAVEN. Rev 6:11 And white robes were given unto every one of them... Note: white robes come in one size, that is the size of Jesus, we grow to fit them, we do not alter them to fit us.

God will give us a white stone with our new name written on it. Rev. 2:17.

4. CLEAR LIGHT, clear bulb represents the Christian testimony.

Proverbs 11:30. This little light of mine I’m going to let it shine.

You can touch people no one else can.The darker the night the greater the light.

5. GREEN LIGHT, GREEN IS REPRESENTATIVE OF GROWTH.

Life on this planet would die without the photosynthesis of green plants. This process turns the dirty air, carbon dioxide back into breathable oxygen.

2 Peter 3:18 But GROW in grace, and in the knowledge of our God and savior Jesus Christ.

1 Samuel 2:26 Samuel grew in favor with both God and men. Growth must be a Christian goal.

3 John 2 Beloved, I wish that above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in good health, EVEN AS YOUR SOUL PROSPERS. This verse is often focused improperly, our first goal should be growth in the soul realm.

6 DARK BLUE LIGHT. BLUE WAS ONE OF THE PRIMARY COLORS IN AND AROUND THE TABERNACLE.

Over the temple hung blue curtains.

The veil in the temple was blue and purple, when Jesus died it was torn from the top to the bottom.

On the altar there was laid a blue covering of dyed badgers skin, this blue skin held the instruments of ministry.

The ephod that the preachers wore was blue background, represented God’s holiness.

The priest wore a little blue thing hanging on their forehead to remind them of God’s precious gifts and God’s holiness.

At the edge of the preachers garment, on the hem there were blue sach, tassel, fringe with a golden bell to remind them of the commandments of the Lord, Number 15:39-40-41.

Mordecai wore a robe of blue and white out of the Kings chambers after God had delivered His people from Haman. Esther 8:5 Blue and white became a symbol of deliverance.

7. SKY BLUE LIGHT. SKY BLUE OR A LIGHT BLUE REMINDS US OF HEAVEN. There is a real place called heaven. John 14 says, If I go away, I will come and receive you unto my self. If I go I will come again, that where I am ... you may be also!

DON’T FORGET HEAVEN.

Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people.

8. MEDIUM BLUE LIGHTS. Medium blue represents water. Mat. 28: 19-20.

Water of baptism, or making a public commitment to follow Jesus.

This blue serves to remind us of the bruises Jesus suffered for us.

9. YELLOW LIGHTS. Yellow represents the inner lining feathers of a dove, the feathers near the heart of a dove... Psa. 68:18.
