Summary: God has purpose for us.

The Creative Word and Spiritual Formation

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Form - tohuw (to’-hoo); from an unused root meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), i.e. desert; figuratively, a worthless thing; adverbially, in vain: confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness.

Void - bohuw (bo’-hoo); (meaning to be empty); a vacuity which is the absence of matter an undistinguishable ruin: emptiness

Darkness- choshek ; figuratively, misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness: night, obscurity.

In vs. 2 god moved upon the face of the deep

Then in vs. 3 comes the creative word

The spirit moves on the individual but it is the words of god that brings form out of chaos

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

In gen 15 the scripture says that Abraham 1st experiences the smoking furnace and a burning lamp a product of the spirit moving then the lord spoke his covenant

At Sinai the people experience a move of gods spirit and then the word is written on tablets

On the day of Pentecost 1st the spirit moves on them then speaks through them

Gods goal is to make us into something not just for us to feel him and this comes by his world forming word

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.[ he is the underlying principle]

he is why we are here why we were even born so if he is the underlying principle or reason I am here

I must hear his word or his purpose for my life in order to be really alive and fulfilled

God is the word in the beginning was the word or thought or purpose or logos and the word was god jn 1

The enemies #1 job is to downplay frustrate or get us to doubt the word

It started way back with adam and eve

He wants us to believe that there is a better life apart from gods word thought direction purpose

Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

This is what a real devil does serpent nachash (naw-khash’); to hiss, i.e. whisper a (magic) spell; to prognosticate: or foretell the future when we r doing good he says future is bad vice versa

When we entertain the wrong voices it brings our mind under a spell and things become cloudy of what or who is right or wrong

The enemy tried to make eve think that there was just as good a life even if she disobeyed the word just a little

Now the enmies plan was to break the communion that he once enjoyed

And that is what happened adam and eve hid themselves from the prescence

Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

Whenever we are trying to get away from his prescence whether it is fear boredom or disgust or not feeling ,the enemy has sold us on the belief in an alternate way. And there can be no spiritual formation

And there will be no

Form - tohuw (to’-hoo); from an unused root meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), i.e. desert; figuratively, a worthless thing; adverbially, in vain: confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness.

Void - bohuw (bo’-hoo); (meaning to be empty); a vacuity which is the absence of matter an undistinguishable ruin: emptiness

Darkness- choshek ; figuratively, misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness: night, obscurity.

genesis chapter 1 reveals the process by which formation takes place.

From formless empty shapelessness the process of formation begins with the moving of the spirit of god and continues with him speaking a creative word.
