Summary: Our evil is infinite. There is no length, width, size, quantity, or any dimension that can give parameters or boundaries to our evil.

Ezekiel 21:24-- “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Because you people have brought to mind your guilt by your open rebellion, revealing your sins in all that you do—because you have done this, you will be taken captive.

Vs. 5—Once God starts, He ain’t stopping!

Vs. 6—Tell it with feeling!

Vs. 7—The impending doom would cause their hearts to melt, they would become so weak that their muscles would become useless. The fear and the weak muscles would cause them to lose control of their bodily functions.

Vs. 8-17—This is no time to make light of God and His Word. His judgement will destroy everything in its path and will even destroy Israel. There will be no way to escape the impending judgement that is going to take place.

Vs. 18-27—Babylon will attack Jerusalem first and overthrow Zedekiah, who is the last king of Israel in the Davidic lineage before the Messiah.

The LORD is warning the people about the impending destruction before it arrives through Ezekiel. He is letting them know that His wrath (the sword—The Word of God) is coming and they better repent (turn physically and mentally from their wicked ways). God is going to destroy them, but He shows His mercy by warning them of the destruction. The message to the people is that they better repent and start believing the preaching of the Law.

THE LAW CAN INFLUENCE THE ACTIONS OF MAN, BUT IT CANNOT GUARANTEE OBEDIENCE. In his infinite wisdom, God set forth the law so that man would not find glory in himself, but instead, find glory and boast in God alone through God’s grace and mercy.

Jeremiah 9:24--24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.

There is an absolute and universal dependence on God for our holiness and our sanctification. We are dependent upon Him to keep us from our corrupt ways that destine us to an eternity in Hell.

WE ARE ALL CORRUPT…

Romans 3:10-12-- (NASB)--as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.”

WE ARE ALL COMPLETELY AND WHOLLY CORRUPT…

Romans 3:13-15—(NASB)-- “Their throat is an open grave, With their tongues they keep deceiving,” “The poison of asps is under their lips”; “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”; “Their feet are swift to shed blood,

WE ARE CORRUPT TO A DESPERATE DEGREE…

Romans 3:16-18—(NASB)-- Destruction and misery are in their paths, And the path of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

WE ARE ALL COMPLETELY AND WHOLLY CURRUPT TO A DESPERATE DEGREE.

This corruption is based upon a total disregard of God’s expectations and our continual chase for infinite evil. If we, as Christians, claim that God has all authority over mankind, then that is the same as saying that He has the right to expect obedience. When we fail in fulfilling our obedience to Him, then we are falling short of His glory.

WE ARE ALL COMPLETELY AND WHOLLY CORRUPT TO A DESPERATE DEGREE AND THIS IS THE RESULT OF FAILING IN OUR OBEDIENCE TO HIM WHICH MEANS WE FALL SHORT OF HIS GLORY.

Our evil is infinite. There is no length, width, size, quantity, or any dimension that can give parameters or boundaries to our evil.

Romans. 7:18. "In me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing." There is all manner of wickedness. There are the seeds of the greatest and blackest crimes. There are principles of all sorts of wickedness against men; and there is all wickedness against God. There is pride; there is enmity; there is contempt; there is quarreling; there is atheism; there is blasphemy. There are these things in exceeding strength; the heart is under the power of them, is sold under sin, and is a perfect slave to it. There is hard-heartedness, hardness greater than that of a rock, or an adamant-stone. There is obstinacy and perverseness, incorrigibleness and inflexibleness in sin, that will not be overcome by threatenings or promises, by awakenings or encouragements, by judgments or mercies, neither by that which is terrifying nor that which is winning. The very blood of God our Saviour will not win the heart of a wicked man.

And there are actual wickednesses without number or measure. There are breaches of every command, in thought, word, and deed: a life full of sin; days and nights filled up with sin; mercies abused and frowns despised; mercy and justice, and all the divine perfections, trampled on; and the honour of each person in the Trinity trod in the dirt. Now if one sinful word or thought has so much evil in it, as to deserve eternal destruction, how do they deserve to be eternally cast off and destroyed, that are guilty of so much sin! ((Jonathan Edwards) The Justice of God in the Damnation of Sinners)
