The Danger of Lagging Behind

Deuteronomy 25:17-19 "Remember what Amalek did to you along the way when you came out from Egypt,
18 how he met you along the way and attacked among you all the stragglers at your rear when you were faint and weary; and he did not fear God.
19 "Therefore it shall come about when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies, in the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you must not forget.
NASU

Hebrews 10:38 BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH;
AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.
39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.

Luke 17:32 Remember Lot’s wife.

God said to Israel in our text Remember what Amalek did to you on your way out of bondage! Remember how he struck down the stragglers. He destroyed the weary and the faint. Amalek knew that they could never bring a frontal attack and win against Israel. So he went to those who were lagging behind. He attacked the stragglers, the wild eyed young people, and the curious. He assaulted the aged people, the pillars of their community who lacked strength not able to keep up in the march of Israel camp.

1. Satan rarely uses a frontal attack

• Amalek is a type of the adversary Satan. He reminds us of the devil. He cannot defeat us as a church he knows a frontal obvious assault would never work.
• Satan you see he was there when Christ told Peter that, “The gates of heel shall not prevail against the church.”
• Satan was there when revival broke out in the upper room
• Satan saw the Revival at Samaria and the prayer meeting at Cornelius House.
• Satan saw the restoration of the Ephesians
• Satan knows he is not Match for a God called church. The gates of hell shall not prevail against the church!
• Satan knows this church is destined for streets of God and Walls of jasper and gates of pearl!

1 Cor 15:55-58 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

2. He always Ambushes those closest to the rear

HOWERVER, Satan has patiently waited to infiltrate the church with false doctrine. He has picked up on the bandwagon of carnality and worldliness. He has prayed on the hindmost of Israel. He looks to those closest to the back door of the church. He has found the unconsecrated, the undedicated, the heartless and the prayer less. There is a danger of lagging behind. To him is does not matter who is lagging. Young or Old it does not matter they are may target: The hindmost of Israel. The ones lagging behind!

• He prays on those too close to their yesterdays.

They live too close to their past. What a Joy it is to see people come in the church and get as far away form the world as they can. We need to get a different attitude about God, Self and sin. Never live too close to your past. The devil prays on those who live to close to you old friends and sinful yesterdays
