The interrogated Self

Subtext: Taking Inventory

Text: Galatians 6:4, 1 Corinthians 11:28

Galatians 6:4 (Amplified Bible)

4But let every person carefully scrutinize and examine and test his own conduct and his own work. He can then have the personal satisfaction and joy of doing something commendable [[a]in itself alone] without [resorting to] boastful comparison with his neighbor

2 Corinthians 13:5 (Amplified Bible)

5Examine and test and evaluate your own selves to see whether you are holding to your faith and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves [[a]not Christ]. Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you--unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected

1 Corinthians 11:28 (Amplified Bible)

Let a man [thoroughly] examine himself, and [only when he has done] so should he eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

Introduction

Our text this morning comes from the book of 1 Corinthians as we know the Corinthian Church had a lot going on it was a Church tat was spiritually messed up . Here the Apostle Paul has written to them concerning the Lord’s Supper and the proper attitude to receive the Lord’s body and his shed blood and the Apostle uses these words “LET A MAN EXAMINE HIM OR HER SELF”.

The word examine means to inspect closely, to test the condition of, to inquire into and to interrogate closely. We must take a close look at ourselves before we attempt to look at others Luke 6:41

Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye but do not notice or consider the beam [of timber] that is in your own eye, or even handle the the things of God .

The text says “Let a man examine or inspect closely him or her self not others, not friends, not neighbors but him or her self, there are some people who spend all their time examing other people and never looking at themselves “Lamentations 3:40 (Amplified Bible) Let us test and examine our ways.

How must we examine ourselves by taking inventory of our selves the word inventory means a list of goods on hand a survey of attitude interest and abilities Firstly we must examine ourselves in the natural Secondly we must examine ourselves in the spiritually

CONCLUSION

How do we examine ourselves,by Word of God

i. Are we loving like Jesus had told us to love John 13:34

I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another.

ii. Are we forgiving like Jesus has told us to forgive Mark 11:25 (Amplified Bible)And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and [a]let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop.

iii. Are we being Peacemakers like we should be

James 3:18 (Amplified Bible)And the harvest of righteousness (of conformity to God’s will in thought and deed) is [the fruit of the seed] sown in peace by those who work for and make peace [in themselves and in others, that peace which means concord, agreement, and harmony between individuals, with undisturbedness, in a peaceful mind free from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts].

In other words is the fruit of the Spirit being demonstrated and/or practice in our lives, When we got to the doctors office for a examination he request us to remove all of our clothing so that ihe is able to properly examine us to see what is wrong.

So it is spiritually when we come to Jesus for a examination we must remove any all things that my gen the way for the Holy Ghost to examine us we must 1) Remove pride 2) a haughty spirit these things amongst many other will keep us form getting a thorough examination.

If one does not examine his or her self and get the things that are not Godly out of the way we become unworthy to accept the Lords broken body and his shed blood.

If one does not examine ourselves we have made ourselves to be unworthy to endter into the very presence of God.
