Summary: Do we really know what the WORD tells us? Do we understand what the word "MEDITATE" means? You’ve got to go back to the origin of the word "MEDITATE" to understand this principle Chew on this principle for a better life.

The Joshua Principle

Joshua 1:8

By William Akehurst HSWC

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Meditate on the WORD

Ha-gah (ha-gah) (Hebrew letters: hey gimmel hey)

Joshua 1:8

1. MEDITATE therein (in the word) day and night

2. DO according to all that is written

3. THEN you shall make your way prosperous

4. THEN you shall have good success

So, What Does Meditate Mean?

Webster’s Definition of MEDITATE

A. intransitive verb

1: to engage in contemplation or reflection

2: to engage in mental exercise (as concentration on one’s breathing or repetition of a mantra) for the purpose of reaching a heightened level of spiritual awareness

B. transitive verb

1: to focus one’s thoughts on: reflect on or ponder over

2: to plan or project in the mind: intend, purpose

So, Webster’s Definition of Meditate: is to contemplate, reflect, focus in thought, ponder, intend or purpose.

This appears to all be in the MIND.

BUT, If we go back to the HEBREW root of the word, we get an even better understanding.

HEBREW LESSON

Ha-gah from the Hebrew letters: hey, gimmel, hey

Literally: To murmur , moan, utter, speak, muse

-Mutter, growl

-Speak, study, talk

-Utter

-Synonyms: Chew on

Ha-gah

Derived of 3 Hebrew letters Hey Gimmel Hey

Illustration.

Hey - to behold, to be revealed

Gimmel - to chew

Gimmel is also symbolic of the camel.

How does a camel get through the desert?

1st, it eats and drinks in as much as it can hold, filling its hump to capacity.

2nd, on the trip, it regurgitates its food, chewing on it, to pull out the nourishment it needs for the journey.

So Meditate, and the 3 Hebrew letters creating the word Ha-gah, means to mutter, utter, speak and chew on GOD’s WORD. It’s not a simple task of thinking. It’s actually speaking GOD’s WORD over your life.

And DOING what it says.

In James, it says, out of the mouth comes blessing and cursing, it should not be so.

So if out of our mouth comes GOD’s WORD, Which is it that you are proclaiming over your life? Blessing!

Remember, GOD’s WORD will not return void, it will prosper whereever it goes and DO all according to HIS purpose.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

I remember listening to the radio early in the morning to Norman Vincent Peale and the American Character. He spoke of the power of positive thinking.

HERE, we see the power of positive WORD and THOUGHT. From GOD’s WORD.

LANGUAGE/SOUND STUDY.

In a cymatic experiment with sound, the 1960, swiss doctor and researcher, Hans Jenny using a tonoscope, discovered that when speaking the Hebrew and Sanskrit aleph-bets into the tonoscope, a remarkable evidence appeared. The sand on the tonoscope responded to the speaking of the letters by assembling itself, the sand, to resemble the letters spoken.

That’s a BIG WOW!

Think about it...

Genesis 1. In the beginning GOD created... HE SPOKE IT INTO EXISTANCE!

What LANGUAGE could our Creator have possibly been speaking? Why Hebrew of course.

So if SPEAKING the language has power to create and move things...

Then what Jesus said makes literal sense. "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Matthew 17:20

So you see, the Joshua Principle is amazing what GOD’s WORD tells us.

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth"

- like the camel, get it within you to nourish your soul. Bring it up and chew on it. You can’t do that unless you memorize it!

"but thou shalt meditate therein day and night"

- not only focus ones thoughts, but more importantly, speak it over your own life.

"that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein"

- be not hearers of the WORD only, but be DOERS of the WORD. James 1:22

"then thou shalt make thy way prosperous"

- then prosper in your way
