Text: Matthew 9:27-29 (King James Version)
"And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed Him, crying, and saying, ’Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.’ (v. 28) And when He was come into the house, the blind men came to Him: and Jesus saith unto them, ’Believe ye that I am able to do this?’ They said unto Him, ’Yea, Lord.’ (v. 29) Then touched He their eyes, saying, ’According to your faith be it unto you.’"
Topic: The Measure Of Faith!
It is not according to fate, nor is it according to our fortune or fame, nor is it according to our friend or feelings - it is according to our faith that we are rewarded in life!
There are five (5) different kinds of faith that affect our lives: (1) Natural faith; (2) Intellectual faith; (3) Historical faith; (4) Saving Faith; and, (5) Victorious faith!
Natural faith is that faith which we have in a bank that our money will be safe - that faith which we have in a mailbox that our letter will be delivered - that faith that we have in an employer that we will be paid at the end of the work week!
Intellectual faith is that faith that a woman has when she follows a recipe to bake a cake - believing that by using the right measure of ingredients, the cake will turn out as planned! Scientific facts tells us that there will be an eclipse of the sun in 2024 - intellectual faith leads us all to believe that it will occur right on schedule!
Historical faith is that faith which tells us that the late great 16th President of the United States of America, Abraham Lincoln (1809 - 1865) gave the "Gettysburg Address." It is that faith which tells us that Jesus, the Christ, actually lived and died on the earth!
Saving faith is that Biblical faith that Almighty God will keep His Promise and save us by His Grace, through faith.
Victorious faith is that faith which a child of Almighty God has that helps him or her exercise prayer and obedience in the Christian life, believing that Almighty God will give certain rewards and benefits to that individual because He has promised to do so! The beloved Disciple/Apostle John, in 1 John 5:4 (NLT), tells us: "For every child of God defeats this evil world by trusting Christ to give the victory."
This morning, the Lord would have us engage our Holy Scripture text by looking at victorious faith - faith that helps the Christian true believer do things for Almighty God! Jesus, the Christ told the two (2) blind men, "According to your faith..." which would seem to indicate that there are various degrees of faith!
There is no faith! In Mark 4:40 (NLT, John Mark records Jesus, the Christ, saying, "...’Why are you so afraid? Do you still not have faith in me?’"
There is little faith. In Matthew 8:26 (NLT), we find Jesus, the Christ, saying: "...’Why are you afraid? You have so little faith.’ Then He stood up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly all was calm."
There is weak faith. In Romans 14:1 (NLT), the Apostle Paul speaks of the immature Christian who has not bee made strong yet: "Accept Christians who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong."
There is dead faith. In James 2:17 (NLT), we are told: "So you see, it isn’t enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn’t show itself by good
