Summary: What would Christmas be like without Christ.

Text: Luke 2:1-20

Title: The Christmas Message

Introduction

What would Christmas be like without Christ?

1.Christmas would be a secular event (v1)

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.”

2.Christmas would be a financial burden (v1)

…should be taxed.

3.Christmas would be a physical challenge (v4)

“So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David…

The Christmas Message

1.The message of Christmas is there is a savior to receive (v11)

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”

The real purpose of Christmas is never about spending but saving

A.His name is Savior (Mt 1:21)

B.His ministry is Savior (Mt. 9:13)

2.The message of Christmas is there is a sign to be believed (v12)

“This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Keeping Christ in Christmas is a sign to the world that God cares about people.

3.The message of Christmas is there is a story to be shared (v17)

“When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child.”

A.Christmas is the story about God’s love

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son…(John 3:16)

B. Christmas is the story about God’s liberty

…that those who believe in him shall not perish…(John 3:16)

C.Christmas is the story about God’s life

…but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
