Summary: A call to repentance.

"Come, and let us return to the LORD; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.” Hosea 6:1-2.

The word ‘return’ means “to get back, go back, come back, turn back, retrace, report back, bring back, re-enter, regain, and start back.” In the passage above, the Most High is talking to His children. This is a divine invitation! God is calling us to get back into the relationship that existed prior.

The Bible says we have all sinned. Romans 3:9-12.

Sin is a stinker! It stalls progress and blocks paths. Sin deflates enthusiasm and truncates hope. Sin prevents breakthrough. It limits dreams and delays prophecy. Sin restrains the hand of God. Sin separates us from God.

“13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:13-14.

Repentance is a return to the Lord. It is a decision to forsake sin and pursue righteousness. Repentance is a change in direction. It is a change of mind or ways of thinking. Repentance is a turning to God. He is merciful to those who turn to Him for comfort and strength. If you will just turn back to the Lord, all will be forgiven.

BENEFITS OF REPENTANCE:

1. Repentance unlocks the doors of forgiveness.

2. It is necessary for salvation.

3. Repentance brings you closer to God.

4. It releases God’s mercy.

5. Repentance unlocks God’s healing power.

6. Repentance clears away guilt and shame. It gives peace of mind.

7. Repentance silences the accuser. Zechariah 3; Revelation 12:10.

8. It grants access into the presence of God.

9. Repentance precedes deliverance. No meaningful deliverance without repentance.

10. Repentance is necessary for restoration.

WHAT TO DO?

1. The first step of repentance is to recognize that you have committed a sin. Admit you need to return to the Lord.

2. Be humble.

3. Confess your sin to God.

4. Receive His forgiveness.

5. Forget the past and move forward.

6. Work on your relationship with God daily.

7. Get back to reading the Word daily.

8. Have a vibrant prayer life.

9. Build up your faith daily.

10. Be addicted to thanksgiving, praise and worship.

11. Don’t neglect the assembly of believers.

12. Stand firm. Don’t let your circumstances affect your relationship with God.

“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” 1 John 1:9.

Where are you in your relationship with God? Are you drifting from His presence? Everyone makes mistakes! Even if you have messed up, God wants to restore you. Like the prodigal son, you can start your return journey today. Remaining lost has eternal consequences. Don’t delay. Come as you are. God forgives.

You cannot fully repent without confessing and forsaking your sin.

Today, you can express your faith in Christ by making this confession: O LORD, I come to You now. I know I am a sinner, forgive me. Lord Jesus, from today, I accept You as the LORD of my life. I believe that it is because of me that You came into this world; You died for my sins. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, write my name in the Book of Life, and make me brand new, in Jesus name.
