Summary: The sheding of animals blood became the beginning of the way back for all mankind! The shedding of Jesus’ blood cleanses us from all sin, and brings complete victory!

The Pleasing Sacrifice Text: Leviticus 8: 18- 24

18 Then he brought the ram as the burnt offering. And Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram, 19 and Moses killed it. Then he sprinkled the blood all around on the altar. 20 And he cut the ram into pieces; and Moses burned the head, the pieces, and the fat. 21 Then he washed the entrails and the legs in water. And Moses burned the whole ram on the altar. It was a burnt sacrifice for a sweet aroma, an offering made by fire to the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses. 22 And he brought the second ram, the ram of consecration. Then Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram, 23 and Moses killed it. Also he took some of its blood and put it on the tip of Aaron’s right ear, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. 24 Then he brought Aaron’s sons. And Moses put some of the blood on the tips of their right ears, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. And Moses sprinkled the blood all around on the altar.

Introduction: God has always required shed blood to be payment for man’s sin. Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’ Hebrews 9:22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. Think about it! “Red blood takes black sin and makes it white as snow!”

I. The best an animals blood could do, was to appease and pacify! It

was very temporary and short lived! I’m sure satan saw men seeking forgiveness through this means and laughed.

A. Satan didn’t have knowledge that this blood was a “type or

symbol” of the blood that would live sinless on earth and willingly give His body and blood for all mankind! The devil didn’t realize that God was using these animals to set him up to live in hell forever!

B. Leviticus 8: 23 says, Moses took this hot blood and put is on

Aaron’s right ear, right thumb and right big toe. Then Moses did the same to Aaron’s sons. ( Relate this on how God’s word keeps your mind pure, Your hands serving, your feet going in the right direction.)

C. Applying the blood to the different parts of Aaron’s body from top

to bottom symbolized his entire consecration. This blood offering was also applied to the horns of the altar signaling the close connection between the altar of God and His blood washed people!

D. We need to understand that the consecration of Aaron and his

sons took eight days; however, it brought with it the appearance of God’s glory!

E. Leviticus 9:23-24 And Moses and Aaron went into the

tabernacle of meeting, and came out and blessed the people. Then the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people, 24 and fire came out from before the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.

F. Here’s 3 thoughts: 1. This took 8 days before God’s glory fell. 2. It took total obedence onto God’s law. 3. It was temporary!

G. Luke 23: 39-43 Then one of the criminals who were hanged

blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” 40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” 43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Matthew 27: 45-54 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 47 Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, “This Man is calling for Elijah!” 48 Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink. 49 The rest said, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, 52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54 So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!” ( Show clip of Jesus being the resurected Christ.)
