On the third day, the tomb was empty.

Matthew 16:21 tells us that “Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. (Matthew 16:21)

In Matthew 17, Jesus tells the disciples that “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. 23 They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life." Matt 17:22-23

We read in Matthew 27:62-64 that “ the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63 "Sir," they said, "we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise again.' 64 So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. “
But on the third day the tomb was empty.
After Jesus was raised from the dead, and the tomb was empty there was a buzz among many of Jesus’ followers who were still unsure of what was or would happen.

It tells us in Luke 24:13-24 that “two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.
17 He asked them, "What are you discussing together as you walk along?"
They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, "Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?"
19 "What things?" he asked.

"About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn't find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see."
That is because On the third day, the tomb was empty.
On the third day, the greatest and best attested miracle of all time was accomplished, the tomb was empty because Jesus resurrected to eternal life!
Miracles
Jesus did a lot of miracles during his earthly ministry.
There are 34 distinct miracles recorded in the New Testament.
In the Gospel of John there are seven that are highlighted outside of His own resurrection.
John 20:30-31 - Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

They begin in John 2 with Jesus turning water into wine
In John 4, Jesus heals a man’s son long distance showing that His power is not limited by proximity, but that He is Lord over the Latitude and Longitude.
In John 5, Jesus reverses 38 years of disability by healing a man who was unable to walk.
In John 6, Jesus shows his mastery over math by making 5 loaves and 2 fish equal meals for more than 5000 with baskets full of leftovers!
Then that night, He shows that as the author of the Laws of Physics that this universe follows, those laws are subject to Him as He walks atop the waves during a storm on the Sea of Galilee and calmed the storm!
In John 9, we see that there is more to Jesus that meets the eye as he takes a man who was born blind, never seen anything in his entire life of more than 40 years, and reworks the wiring between this man’s brain and his eyes, so that He can see what he has never seen.
