1 Chronicles 4:9-10 THE SAINT'S PRAYER

Hosea 14:2 Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

I. JABEZ PROBLEM - What A Test 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

literally means, “The Son Of My Sorrow; Pain; Affliction; He Will Cause Pain. An Irishman went to Somerset House, and said he wanted to change his name. They asked him what his name was. He said "Michael Ramsbottom"

When they asked him what he wanted it changed to, he said "Eric"

A. THE REASON FOR HIS NAME “His mother bore him with sorrow.”

1. Was it because the delivery was hard? 2. Was it because times were hard?

B. THE RIDICULE OF HIS NAME. “His mother called his name Jabez.” (sorrowful)

C. THE RESPONSE TO HIS NAME "Jabez was more honourable than his brethren" 1 Cor 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. II. JABEZ PURSUIT - What A Testimony 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, 1. The Person He Looked To! 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, He Prayed For:-

I. GRACE - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; II. GROWTH "Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed and enlarge my coast" III. GUIDANCE - and that thine hand might be with me,

Rom 8:14 "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God they are the sons of God."

IV. GODLINESS - that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me

2. The Power He Longed For! saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed,

b. There was Purpose in it "Enlarge!"

c. There was Perception in it "Thine hand"

d. There was Persuasion in it "Keep me!" 3. The Presence He Leaned On! and that thine hand might be with me,

III. JABEZ PRAYER - What A Trust 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, A. Jabez Prayed For Prosperity - Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, Psalm 1:3 The Blessed Man shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Josh 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. B. Jabez Prayed For Power - and that thine hand might be with me, God's Power (Ex 15:6, “Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power:.”)

God's Presence (Ps 18:35 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up,”)

God's Protection (Ps. 139:10, “and thy right hand shall hold me.”)

God's Provision (Ps 145:16, “Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing..”) C. Jabez Prayed For Protection - that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! Mt 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

IV. JABEZ PRIZE - What A Triumph

10 And God granted him that which he requested. God's Grace - "God granted" God's Greatness - God granted as only he could God's Glory - "that which he requested"
