Sermons

Summary: One of the first sermons I wrote and posted for this site dealt with the scientific brilliance found in the first chapter of Genesis. There are other scientific standards found in this opening chapter of the inerrant and all-sufficient Word of God, and they are worth exploring and affirming.

When I read the first chapter of Genesis, I do not see the development of an ancient myth or legend. I do not see the fruit of an overactive imagination of an anonymous sage trying to explain to his "backward" clan or tribe of how they came to be. I do not see any collection of stories borrowed from a conglomeration of ideas and thoughts from different people groups within the area we refer to as "the cradle of civilization", the Middle East. I do not and will not accept any of these anti-supernatural and anti-God hypotheses that have willfully blinded both the scientific and religious circles of academia as well as the majority of people today who look with disdain, disgust, and willful disbelief upon what is the absolute and perfect description of the origins of time, matter, space, and humanity found in the book of Genesis.

Upon saying this, I want the reader to know that in no way have I ever rejected nor condemned the fruit of what is the result of objective and empirical inquiry, experimentation, hypothetical inquiry, and sound research. What I object to is the constant mental bullying by members of the scientific community to accept their conclusions and decisions without questioning them. That is not settled belief, but the enforcement of propaganda. If we are forced to accept what is defined as "settled science", then we should have never questioned the ethical usage of Zyklon-B gas that was used to murder 6,000,000 Jews and other groups in the Holocaust, nor should we have exposed the horrendous side effects of thalidomide, lobotomies, shock therapy, eugenics, phrenology, the horrid experimentation done on children in Nazi concentration camps by fiends such as Dr. Josef Mengele, nor give any attention to the racism and disdain for life these "scientific" works produced from the minds of atheistic evolutionists. Adherents to evolution and its emphasis on naturalism gave us degenerates like Margaret Sanger, the founder of the baby murdering institute known as "Planned Parenthood" and Adolf Hitler, who admired Sanger's theory of eliminating those whom she referred to as "human weeds", the feeble minded, the deformed, and inferior races such as African Americans. History has shown us the consequences of such ideas.

The disdain and outright demonic hatred for the Genesis account of creation by many of the pundits of the scientific community should be obvious to those of us who are followers of Jesus Christ and the standards of Scripture. However, that is not the case. More than half of professing "Christians" in America alone accept evolution as an explanation for the origins of life and say that there is more than one way to God than Jesus Christ. Some teach that Jesus may have committed sin and deny the existence of a literal malevolent being known as the devil, that hell does not exist, or that if there is such a place, that it is not eternal but that all who are there will eventually cease to exist. We are suffering from an epidemic of biblical illiteracy, the lack of personal inquiry, and that too many people are allowing someone else to do their thinking for them, favoring teachings that "tickle ears" and make them feel good about themselves rather than see themselves as God does, rebellious sinners in need of a Savior (Isaiah 53:6, 64:6-7; Romans 1: 21-23, 3:10-18, 5:6-11; 2 Timothy 4:1-4).

I want everyone who is reading this sermon to stop and think about what God has presented in His Word. His sovereign power created the events that originated the branches of science. Our rebellious, hard-hearted and stubborn attitudes prevent us from admitting that He is the God of all creation and that the randomness and meaninglessness of the evolutionary development holds no validity as an alternative. With all this, let us proceed to examine Genesis 1. The opening verse, "In the beginning, GOD created the heaven and the earth" shows us that what we see and experience here on Earth is the product of precision, logic, rationality, and exact standards from the mind of a Being who is personal, outside and above space, time, and matter, and limitless in His power to put everything into place as needed without waste or afterthought. We see no evidence of randomness, spontaneity, or the chaos that comes with the idea of something from nothing as many people believe today.

What else can we glean from these opening words of Genesis? Verses 2-5 give us the foundation of the science of physics, light, heat, and matter. Verses 6-8 describe the origins of the atmosphere and the climates, giving us the science of meteorology, the study of weather conditions. Verse 9-10, which describe the formation of the dry land and the seas, give us the origins of geology, the study of the earth and its minerals. Verses 11-13 tell of the formation of the grasses, seed, trees and plants. Here is the origin of botany, the study of plant life. When God created the heavenly bodies such as the stars, the planets, the sun and the moon (vv.14-19), He gave us the building blocks for astronomy, the study of the stars and what lies beyond. The creation of animal life (vv.20-25) in the seas and on the land give us the origins of biology, oceanography, mammalogy, and ichthyology, the study of animals, the seas, the mammals, and the fishes of the world.
