CONSIDERATIONS(5:16)

Explanation:(5:16)Regard

5:16—“Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.”

Because the Christian is a new creation in Christ, they are compelled thru the Holy Spirit, not to “regard”(literally ‘know’) man, but rather to “regard”(know/recognize) God first & foremost above all else. A Christian’s(new man’s) “regarding”(knowing/recognizing) is never to be directed by/couched in “the flesh.” When(not IF) you sin, then God is not first, & you have openly “regarded”(known/recognized) man over God.

Through concession to avoid misunderstanding, Paul admits that “we” have personally experienced(“known”—ginwskw) Christ thru “the flesh.” In other words, Christ was bodily, physically here on earth.

However Jesus’ bodily presence, in flesh, is a uniquely past experience per His ascension to heaven.
