What Kind Of Parent Are You? Series

Summary: The purpose of this sermon is to help parents find out which style of parenting they are currently using and which style of parenting they should be using.
He must manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him. 5 For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?” 1 Timothy 3: 4-5
Eli was disqualified from leadership because he did not restrain his children fro doing wrong. ( 1 Samuel 3: 12-13 )
What kind of parent are you?
1. LIFEGUARD PARENTS: OFTEN RESCUE A CHILD FROM CONSEQUENCES.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
2. ETCH-A-SKETCH PARENTS: OFTEN INCONSISTENT.
The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother...Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul. Proverbs 29:15, 17
3. SPLIT-DECISION PARENTS: OFTEN UNUNIFIED.
Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so? Amos 3:3
DISCIPLINE ISN’T SOMETHING YOU DO TO YOUR CHILD, BUT FOR YOUR CHILD.
Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.
“A child who has not been disciplined with love by his little world will be disciplined without love by the great big world.” Zig Ziglar
GETTING IT RIGHT WHEN IT COMES TO DISCIPLINE
1) WE EXPECT FIRST TIME AND CHEERFUL OBEDIENCE.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Colossians 3:20
Do everything without complaining or arguing… Philippians 2:14
Discipline more for attitude than actions.
2) WE AGREE TO NEVER DISCIPLINE IN ANGER.
In your anger do not sin. Ephesians 4:26
“Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.” Proverbs 13:24
“A youngster’s heart is filled with foolishness, but physical discipline will drive it far away.” Proverbs 22:15
3) WE WILL DISCIPLINE PROMPTLY WITH INSTRUCTION AND RECONCILIATION.
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4
