WHO TOUCHED ME

By-Evangelist Gary Huckaby D.D.

Luke 8:45

"And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?"

The crowds were always following our Lord. From the beginning of His ministry, down to the day He gave himself to die upon the Cross of Calvary. For three and a half years they follower Him. Listening to His teachings, watching the miracles, and His example set forth for all who would follow. Then there came a woman, not just any woman, but a woman who had a need. The need to reach out to the Lord Jesus Christ.

In our message there are two separate incidents that are taking place. The first incident is that of the man named Jairus, he was a ruler of the synagogue, and if you will read along with me you will see his need in meeting with our Lord, and falling at the feet of Jesus. Let’s look at the story in Lukes Gospel.

Luke 8:41,42,-" And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue; and he fell down at Jesus feet, and besought him that he would come into his house. For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay dying. But as he went the people thronged him."

Jairus had a great need, it was a need for one in his family, his only daughter. The length a parent will go through to help his family are incredible to say the lest. How often has a dad, or mother, gone out of their way and reached out to help their own children. Her was such a case. You will note that not only did Jairus seek out the Lord through a great crowd of followers, but he also humbled himself before Jesus in front of this crowd, by falling at Jesus feet. What humbleness he displayed that day. How pleased Christ must have been to know the dedication of this father in seeking help for his daughter’s life.

Then all at once a turn of events takes place, our attention turns from the needs of this man to the needs of another. A woman. And not just any woman, a woman who also had a great need, the need for healing of her body. A woman who had been sick for twelve years. Lets read the account.

Luke 8:43-48,-"And a woman, having an issue of blood twelve years, who had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed by any, Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment; and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me; for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort;
