Summary: How wisdom can benefit us.

Verse 5-If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

If Any Lacks…Implies that everyone has a deficit (shortage) of wisdom.

There is a difference from the wisdom we have before a trial and the wisdom we could have after a trial, if we would only ask!

In our natural wisdom we asks, "WHY ME" and in the wisdom that God wants to give us, is that we would start asking for wisdom to see us through the trial and the lessons we could learn because of the trial.

This wisdom God offers to us, is simply for the asking; it is not mere knowledge of facts, or the accumulation of information.

A lot of people have gone under the trials of life knowing all the facts, knowing all the promises.

The wisdom God offers is understanding for living.

It is the God-given ability to make godly decisions and choices in the midst of difficult circumstances.

It is more than knowing what you know, it’s applying what you know!

"Why do we need wisdom for trials" A better question is “Why have trials if we have not wisdom, how to handle them and how to benefit from them.”

Through knowledge, man has learned to go faster than sound, but shows his lack of wisdom by going faster in the wrong direction.

Through knowledge man has accumulated vast information about the planet in which he lives, but shows his lack of "Wisdom" in the way he treats his environment.

Man lacks "Wisdom" although he is more educated than ever before.

The wisdom we are talking about has to come from God.

1 Cor. 2:14-But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

We as believers have to have God’s help in making right decisions, not matter how long we have been a Christian.

Ephesians 1:17-that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

Colossians 1:9-For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Wisdom to James and to any Jewish reader of that time was the understanding needed to live life to the glory of God.

Proverbs 4:7-Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

Proverbs 3:5-6-Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:7-26-Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.

It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.

Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase;

So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.

My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction;

For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding;

For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold.

She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.

Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor.

Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.

The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens;

By His knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew.

My son, let them not depart from your eyes— Keep sound wisdom and discretion;

So they will be life to your soul And grace to your neck.

Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble.

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.

Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;

For the Lord will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught.
