we would lift up our hearts! I think Mary expressed this best in what is called her Magnificat:
Luke 1:46-50 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify {Greek “mega” MAKE HIM GREAT} the Lord,
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
Making the Lord great! They were more concerned about “the rush” they felt or what they were “getting out of it.” They were doing it to impress others or the Pastor or evangelist for the night. But they did not impress God. Our focus should be THANKING AND PRAISING JESUS for what he had done.
Ps 34:3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
This word magnify in the Here speaks of name and reputation. Are we concerned about our greatness or His? Are we more concerned about our name and reputation or his?The praise of man toward God is the means by which we express our joy to the Lord. We are to praise God both for who He is and for what He does:
Henry Ward Beecher was one of the great preachers of the 19th Century. He was ill one Sunday, so a substitute pastor walked up to the pulpit as the worship service began. Seeing that Dr. Beecher would not be speaking that day, a number of people got up and headed for the door. The substitute preacher said, "All those who came to worship Dr. Beecher this morning may leave. All those who came to worship the Lord, may stay in their seats." Everyone sat back down.
Ps 150:2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
Praising God for who He is called adoration; praising Him for what He does is known as thanksgiving. Praise of God may be in song or prayer, individually or collectively, spontaneous or prearranged, originating from the emotions or from the will.
2. REAL WORSHIPPERS!
John 4:22-24 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
WESCOTT- “You know who to worship, but you do not know him!”
It is possible to know the one that is worthy of praise and worship, but never come to know him personally. You know were your worship should be directed, but you still do not have a relationship with whom you worship.
AW. TOZER SAID, “I CAN SAFELY SAY, ON THE AUTHORITY OF THE WORD OF GOD, THAT ANY MAN OR WOMAN ON THIS EARTH WHO IS BORED OR TURNED OFF BY WORSHIP, IS NOT READY FOR HEAVEN.”
God is seeking for {coveting earnestly, striving after} worshippers! I believe however that the last thing God wants is a bunch of Luke warm worldly minded people worshipping him. He wants the worship of loving obedient children continuously.
TRUE WORSHIPPERS: GENUINE NOT JUST SINCERE! Genuine worship is seen in those that worship according to God’s demands. You can be sincere in worship but be ignorant of how to correctly worship God! Our attitude in worship should be that we are hopelessly in love with
