Summary: The Victorious Lamb of God is the Focus of Heaven

Revelation 5:5-6

Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals." 6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the centre of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits {Or the sevenfold Spirit} of God sent out into all the earth.

SUBJECT: JESUS

THEME: JESUS IN HEAVEN

Prop. Jesus is …

1. THE JOY OF HEAVEN … “weep not”

a) A Time To Weep

Ecclesiastes 3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

b) A Time To Dry The Tears

Luke 7:13 When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

2. THE VICTORY OF HEAVEN … “He has triumphed”

a) The Lamb Is Victorious

John16.33 take heart! I have overcome the world

1Corinthians 15:25 He must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

b) We Share His Victory

Revelation 3:21 To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.

3. THE HISTORY OF HEAVEN … “a lamb slain”

a) His Death Is Effective In Eternity

Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain

As it had been slain As if now in the act of being offered. This is very remarkable; so important is the sacrificial offering of Christ in the sight of God that he is still represented as being in the very act of pouring out his blood for the offenses of man. This gives great advantage to faith: when any soul comes to the throne of grace, he finds a sacrifice there provided for him to offer to God. Thus all succeeding generations find they have the continual sacrifice ready, and the newly-shed blood to offer. [Adam Clarke]

b) His Death Is Effective Today

1 John 1.7 if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all {Or every} sin.

4. THE FOCUS OF HEAVEN … “the centre of the throne”

a) The Exalted Christ

Revelation 1.12-18 I saw seven gold lampstands. 13 And standing in the middle of the lampstands was the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. 14 His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were bright like flames of fire. 15 His feet were as bright as bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. 16 He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was as bright as the sun in all its brilliance. 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, "Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the living one who died. Look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.

b) The Exalted Christian

Revelation 2.21-22. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
