Summary: God’s goal for your life is to become like Jesus. Will you be more like him in 12 months time than you are right now? Here’s how you can be.

YOU CAN BECOME A BETTER PERSON

You can become a better person this year. But why should you want to? Because you are not yet the person God created you to be. God wants you to be like Jesus Christ. As long as we are unlike Christ we are living below our created potential. That’s why you want to become a better person this year.

Character development is one of the main reasons God has left you here on earth. If he was finished with your life here on earth, then he would end it. And you would go to be in eternity. But you are still here, so you are still a work in progress. And God is still perfecting you. He hasn’t finished with you yet.

So that’s why we want to be come better people this year. But how are we going to do it? Well we do what Jesus did. Luke 2:52 says, Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favour with God and man.

1. INTELLECTUAL – Jesus increased in wisdom

You can become smarter this year.

“Do yourself a favour and learn all you can. Remember what you’ve learned and you’ll prosper” (Proverbs 19:8)

2. PHYSICAL – Jesus increased in stature

You can become healthier this year.

“Being cheerful keeps you healthy. It’s a slow death to be gloomy all the time” (Proverbs 17:22)

3. SPIRITUAL – Jesus increased in favour with God

You can become spiritually stronger this year.

“Grow in spiritual strength and become better acquainted with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18)

Will you be closer to Jesus at the end of this year? Will you be more like him at the end of this year than you are right now?

4. SOCIAL - Jesus increased in favour with others.

You can become a better friend this year. God wants you to serve others.

“God’s given you some special abilities. Be sure to use them to help each other” (1 Peter 4:10)

Why not set a goal to discover your gifts and get involved in a ministry this year. The key to becoming a better friend is to be concerned about other people and not just yourself.

CONCLUSION

You can’t become a better person on your own.

“Your strength must come from the Lord’s mighty power within you” (Ephesians 6:10).
