Zion - The Lord's Place and Our Place!

(17)

Sermon shared by George Dillahunty

April 2004
Summary: According to Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (Tenth Edition), Zion is a citadel in Palestine which was the nucleus of Jerusalem - but, we Christian true believers know it as the Lord’s Place and Our Place!
Denomination: Church of God
Audience: General adults
Sermon:
How many of you agree that the Lord’s Place and Our Place are both in the same place? Tell me, "How many of you bear the scent of the Shepherd?" What do you mean by that, preacher? I mean, "How many of you have learned to depend upon the Lord Jesus Christ? How many of you have learned to worship Jesus, the Christ, in spirit and in truth? How many of you have learned to rest and abide in the arms of Jesus, the Christ? If indeed, we are bearing the scent of the Shepherd, when that "Big Bad Wolf" satan comes around thinking that he is all that and a bag of chips to boot, when he comes around thinking he’s bad, he will smell the scent of the Shepherd upon your life and run away from you in stark terror!

The Apostle James, the half-brother of Jesus, the Christ, in James 4:7 (KJV), tells us: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Our faithful dictionary, mentioned earlier, defines the word "resist" in this fashion: "to exert oneself so as to counteract or defeat"! That same dictionary describes the word "flee" as "to run away from"! Therefore, it becomes crystal clear that if we exert ourselves so as to counteract or defeat the devil, the devil will run away from us! The devil, who is a "F-L-E-A" - a blood-sucking evil insect that leaps upon and feeds upon warm-blooded Christian true believers - that same devil, will have to "F-L-E-E"!

Psalm 132 is one of the most powerful Psalms in the Holy Bible, the written Word of Almighty God! You see, my brothers and sisters, on many occasions, we find ourselves too "busy" for Almighty God. But David, the psalmist, was the kind of man who had a heart that leaned toward Almighty God! My Holy Bible tells me, in 1 Samuel 13:14 (KJV), that David was "a man after [God’s] own heart!" David never started any day without first trying to make a place for Almighty God - something that each and every one of us needs to do, also, for Almighty God wants to be Lord and King over our lives!

We need to understand, my brothers and sisters, that until Almighty God becomes Lord and King over our own individual lives, we will never understand what it means for Almighty God to be Lord and King over our local church or "Body of Christ"! You see, my brothers and sisters, we must enter the "House of the Lord" with a corporate mind that is focused upon Almighty God in unison - and not individually - in order to understand the fullness of Almighty God and what He wants out of His church or "Body of Christ"!

It is not until we start praising and worshipping Almighty God together as a corporate entity, that we will understand the power and the glory of Almighty God - the Father! We might think that we have an intimate relationship with Almighty God - and, indeed, a lot of individuals think that the ultimate realm of intimacy with Almighty God is when they are alone with God and communing one-on-one with Him - and, my brothers and sisters, there is nothing wrong with that - it’s a wonderful thing - it’s a precious and marvelous thing - however, it is not the ultimate realm of intimacy with Almighty God!

It becomes the ultimate realm of intimacy with Almighty God when we become fitted and joined together making up one body - the "Body of Christ"! When we reach that level of togetherness, when we come together in "one mind and one accord" it is only then, church, that the Glory
