DOING THE WILL OF GOD
Psalm 40:8
Intro: I am a firm believer that you are either in the will of the Lord or you are not. I have heard some preach on the “Permissive Will” of the Lord and I understand where they are coming from when they preach on that subject. I can reason with their justifications but I cannot grasp how they can think God would permit someone to get by with being out of His will when He will not let them get by with sin. It is possible to be saved and not be right with God. The way that is possible is that people are not in the “Perfect Will” of God. I want to preach on this subject tonight; “DOING THE WILL OF GOD.” There are three things that doing the will of God can do for you in your spiritual life.
I. ESTABLISH A DIVINE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU AND LORD
A. (Matthew 12:50) For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven,
the same is my brother, and sister, and mother
B. If want to be close to Jesus then get to doing His will for your life
C. Oft times we say we cant figure out what is wrong in our life knowing good and well we are not in His will
D. Therefore we deceive ourselves
E. If we want to establish a relationship between ourselves and God we have got to be on speaking terms = prayer
F. There has to be rapport
G. Ex. Car buying experience!!! Once he knew what I needed and wanted we was able to work, but the only way he could know that was for me to tell him. We had to build a relationship
II. GIVE YOU DOCTRINAL DISCERNMENT
A. (John 7:17) If any man will do his will, he shall of the doctrine, whether if be of God, or whether I speak of myself
B. It is ashamed that people don’t know more about the very Book they are supposed to be living by.
C. I have heard people say well I know the basics
D. What are the basics? The Bible says to know the whole counsel of God
E. Never does it say to know the basics of God
F. Being in the will of God can also help you know whether a man is preaching the truth or not and it can let you know if he is preaching in the spirit of God or another spirit
III. GIVE YOU DESIRE TO SERVE HIM WHOLE HEARTEDLY
A. (Ephesians 6:6) Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers, but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart
B. How many times have we come to church and especially on Wednesday night, not because we wanted to but because we “had” to
C. How many times have we done something at the church not because we wanted to do it but because the rest of the men was doing it and we knew if we didn’t there might be some talk
D. If we would get in the will of God we would want to do it whether anyone else did it or not
E. Ex. Honduras trip!! I wanted to go but when I took the new job it looked bleak. But it was in my heart to be there and it was the will of God because he made a way for me to be there

IV. GIVE YOU THE DISCIPLINE FOR DAILY LIVING
A. If you have ever been in the military or a militant setting you know discipline
B. Once of the tactics of the military is the break you down mentally so they can build you into what they want you to be
C. That is part of being a soldier
D. Your mindset becomes different. It becomes one of instinct, reaction and survival.
E. You become discipline
F. Ex. Honduras Gang Gun Fire!! When the gun fire began I went for cover and my duty weapon that I didn’t have
G. I had been trained to react that way to gun fire and it was in my subconscious to fire back
H. When we are in the will of God it will be in our subconscious to cleave to that which is good and eschew evil and we will do it without hesitation
I. We become disciplined and the more we are disciplined to that lifestyle the easier it becomes to live that way
