Summary: In this message, I wanted to explain to the congregation about the anointing, and why we need a fresh anointing daily.

A Fresh Anointing

Today, I am going to be talking about the anointing, and staying filled with the Holy Ghost. How many of our problems would be solved if we just had a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

We know from the word of God that it is His will that all be filled with the Holy Spirit.

We are to maintain a constant experience of being filled with the Spirit so we can be full reservoirs instead of empty cisterns. We need to see the results of being anointed with fresh oil and the characteristics of those who maintain a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Eph 5:18- 21

I. Supernatural Utterance

Notice that verse 19 says, Speaking to yourselves. Have you ever noticed in connection with being filled with the Spirit how many times the Bible talks about speaking. The result of being filled with the Spirit is speaking in a supernatural utterance.

Acts 2:4

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave utterance.

Acts 4:31

Acts 10: 44-46

v46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

Eph 5: 18 & 19

filled with the Spirit, Speaking

Speaking supernaturally is speaking by the unction of the Holy Spirit. When you get filled, the utterance, and the evidence of being filled is speaking with other tongues. And in order to maintain the Spirit filled life, you got to keep speaking in tongues on a daily basis.

There are also other characteristics of one who is filled with the Spirit. There is speaking, singing, giving thanks, and submitting.

Eph 5:18-21

Besides speaking in other tongues, another way to maintain a fresh anointing upon your life is to speak to yourself in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs which also come by supernatural.

If you are filled up to overflowing with the Spirit- if you maintain a fresh anointing on your life- you will also continually be giving thanks unto God, and you will humble and submit yourself.

II Singing

When the Bible talks about psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, it’s not referring to singing songs out of a songbook. It is talking about a supernatural utterance given by the Holy Spirit. Psalms, hymns, and other spiritual songs are given by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit at the spur of the moment; they are not learned or rehearsed.

Now, with that being said, I have heard at times a melody, or a song that someone is singing that we may know, that at that time it is a spur of the moment thing. Sometimes it’s prophecy that can come across.

1 Cor 14:3

But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

Anyone who is filled with the Holy Spirit and, when the Holy Spirit speaks can prophesy, but it has to be the Holy Spirits timing, not just us prophesying just to do it. We also must be very careful that we do not prophecy out of our own emotions or our own spirit, because people can get hurt, especially if it is not God.

1 Cor 14:31

For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.

Anyone can prophesy, but it doesn’t mean that you are a Prophet. All of us can sing in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs because they are given by the Holy Spirit through the spirit of Prophesy.

The bible also says in Matt 12:34 that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Whatever is in your heart is going to come out of your mouth. If you have a song that is in your heart, it’s going to come out.

Eph 5:19

speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and other spiritual songs

A psalm is a spiritual poem. You can either speak a psalm or sing a psalm to yourself, to edify you, and build yourself up. Again, what makes this different than just singing a song is because it’s a psalm or spiritual song that comes from the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

III Don’t stop at the door to the door of the supernatural

So many times we just want to stop at the door to the supernatural, but the Lord wants us to come in, because there is more. There is more to the supernatural than just being filled with the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues.

Continue to be filled by the Lord, continue to speak in tongues, continue to go through the door of the supernatural. There are times where you can get lost in the Spirit. We need to stay in God’s presence until we get that fresh anointing. We need to follow God’s New Testament pattern so we can be full reservoirs to His glory.

Matt 27:51

Why is it that the veil was ripped down the middle? So all could enter into the presence of God.

John 7:37 & 38

Can I ask you this morning, have you ever heard of a river coming to a dead stop? A dead stand still? No, so why is it that we think that the Holy Spirit can just move on us 1 time, and stop? Why can’t that river keep flowing in us? Why can’t the river of the Holy Spirit keep flowing is us like bible says, rivers, rivers, rivers of living water.

Are you Hungry and thirsty for a fresh anointing?

Matt 5:6

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

To many times we rush our services, we rush through our songs, we rush through the message, because what is on TV, because we are hungry, we want to eat. But can I just say this morning that God wants us to be hungry for Him?

The Bible talks about hunger. This generation is a microwave generation, but we do not serve a microwave God. We give God 1 ½ to move, if He doesn’t move or do something, than we leave.

IV Get Away From Things That Will Contaminate You & The Anointing

Psalm 37: 27

Depart from evil, and do good

You must know that the enemy is out to contaminate you, and your anointing. You know how we can get contaminated? By tolerating sin and evil in our midst.

Proverbs 17: 15

He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, both are an abomination to the Lord.

Know that we are called to be sanctified for the Master’s use. Sanctified means set apart.

Our anointing will be contaminated if we are not pure. This doesn’t mean that we are perfect people and we always do everything right, but what it does mean is that we don’t embrace, tolerate or justify sin in ourselves or around us.

2 Chron 34: 1-7
