Summary: We know there is great power in unity and love, but we must consider the power that can be released in division and disagreement.

DIVISION A SATANIC TRAP ---

OUR ENEMY WANTS TO STEAL --- KILL --- OR DESTROY.

By wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

This is part one of a three part series.

Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

July 22, 1988 at 3:30 AM on Friday morning I had a dream and I got up and penned these words.

"MY PEOPLE MUST QUIT SEEING AND FOCUSING ON PROBLEMS,

I WANT THEM TO LOOK TO ME, GOD, AND SEE I --- THEIR LORD GOD HAS THE SOLUTION TO ALL PROBLEMS.

THERE ARE NOT TWO SIDES TO PROBLEMS, ONLY MY SIDE,"

SAITH THE LORD OF HOST!

I. OUR ENEMY OPERATES UNDER A THREE FOLD MANDATE.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more

abundantly.

A. Our enemy does not have creative powers, he operates out of the same TOOL BOX he has used from the beginning of time.

B. ONE OF HIS GREATEST TOOLS TO SEPERATE US FROM GOD,

FROM OUR FAMILIES AND FROM THE CHURCH IS DIVISION AND CONFUSION.

II. PRAYER IS A SECRET WEAPON OF REVIVAL FOR THE CHURCH AND UNITY FOR THE FAMILY.

A. PRAYER IS A SAFETY VALVE OF THE SPIRIT, THE SOUL, AND THE BODY.

Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

B. We have the need of safety valves:

1. Every hot water heater has a safety pop off valve. If it over heats, instead of blowing up and endangering lives, the safety valve will allow a safe run off.

2. Every good pressure cooker has a safety valve. There is a jangler that slowly releases pressure, and then there is a rubber insert that will pull and release pressure prior to blowing up under the extreme pressure.

C. Prayer not only changes things, the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous can change situations at work, at church and in the family!

III. LET US DEFINE:

A. DISAGREE --- DISAGREEMENT --- DISAGREEABLE

Lack of harmony, clash.

To hold a different opinion.

Quarrel.

To have an adverse effect.

To dispute, to argue.

To refuse to accept others or opinions.

UPLEASANT, RUDE, BAD TEMPERED.

CONTRARY.

To love to debate, quarrel, fuss or find fault.

B. CONFUSION:

Chaos, mess, mix-up, to not understand.

Perplex, bewilder, puzzle, disorder.

IV. WHAT CAN HINDER PRAYER?

A. We are not studying today what hinders prayers?

B. We have recently studied the hinderances to prayer.

C. But today we are studying the kissing cousins of DIVISION AND CONFUSION.

1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs

together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

V. JESUS CLEARLY TAUGHT US TO COME INTO AGREEMENT QUICKLY!

A. We seem to be able to grow personalities and attitudes that are very quick to

pick apart every spoken word and find fault and judge others because we can not find a point of agreement.

Matthew 5:25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the

judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

B. Agreement and Unity prepares the hearts of people for GOD’S BLESSINGS.

C. We must be known FOR OUR ATTITUDES OF RECONCILIATION AND FORGIVENESS.

VI. OUR ENEMY’S PLAN OF ATTACK IS TO BREED DISAGREEMENT AS ACCEPTABLE AND THE NORM. HEAVEN WORKS BY THE POWER OF AGREEMENT! THE CHURCH MUST OPERATE BY THE POWER OF AGREEMENT.

A. The blessed Trinity works by the power of AGREEMENT!

1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

B. The family and the church must operate by the POWER OF AGREEMENT.

Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father

which is in heaven.

C. Our enemy got Eve to disagree with what God taught.

D. Adam comes into this disagreement with God.

E. Cain does not agree with God, the punishment is greater than Cain wants to accept.

F. Jezebel and Ahab agreed to disagree with the man of God --- Elijah --- and they thus disagreed with the message of God.

VII. SATAN KNOWS THE POWER OF DIVISION!

WISE MEN KNOW THE POWER OF DISAGREEMENT IN THE HOME AND IN THE NATION AND IN THE FAMILY --- WHERE IS THE UNITY?

A. Wise men know the Bible!

B. The power of repetition ---

Matthew 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided

against itself shall not stand:

Mark 3:24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

Luke 11:17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.

C. ABRAHAM LINCOLN DECLARED:

A HOUSE DIVIDED AGAINST ITSELF CANNOT STAND.

I BELIEVE THIS GOVERNMENT CANNOT ENDURE HALF SLAVE AND HALF FREE.

I DO NOT EXPECT THIS UNION TO BE DISSSOLVED ---

I DO NOT EXPECT THIS HOUSE TO FALL ---

BUT I DO EXPECT IT WILL CEASE TO BE DIVIDED.

IT WILL BECOME ONE THING OR ALL THE OTHER WILL FAIL.

D. How did Abraham Lincoln solve this issue:

A call to prayer and unity.

E. Mr. Lincoln and U.S. Grant developed a plan --- THE ANDACONDA PLAN ---

Their plan was to divide and conquer the south.

Sherman marched through dividing the nation east west, while other troops divided the south by using the Mississippi River.

F. LINCOLN KNEW TO PULL THE NORTH TOGETHER AND DIVIDE THE SOUTH.

1 Cor. 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

1 Cor. 11:18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.

VIII. TWO LADIES IN THE PHIILIPPIANS CHURCH WERE DISAGREEING? WHO WAS RIGHT? THEY WERE BOTH RIGHT IN THEIR OWN EYES!

Philip. 4:2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.

A. The Bible does not discuss what they were disagreeing about so the bone of contention is not the issue!

B. The Bible so states disagreement that Paul’s lesson was instruction to bring them together in unity.

IX. WHERE THERE IS DIVISION THERE IS ALWAYS CONFUSION!

A. Paul was preaching in a great city, there was much disagreement, they were nearing problems with the law.

B. Some men had a jealous fear of loosing their business of making little god statues, and the disagreement turned into great confusion.

X. FROM WHERE DO WE FIND DISAGGREMENT AND CONFUSION AND STRIFE?

A. We better ask the Bible, or people will get mad at the answer!

B. This lack of agreement again hinders progress and blessings.

James 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

XI. WITH DEEP UNDERSTANDING --- CAN WE AGREE THAT DISAGREEMENT CAN BECOME HATE?

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Psalm 133:1 A Song of degrees of David.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard,

even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
