Summary: We ponder what will heaven be and what 8 things won’t be in heaven.

WHAT WON’T BE THERE! (Heaven)

By Wade martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

This could be done as a two part lesson.

I. WHAT IS THE ONLY MAN MADE THING IN HEAVEN?

A. The answer to that is simple, the scars in the hands and feet of Jesus were made by man.

B. Jesus will carry those scars as a testimony of the price He paid for our INVITATION and HIS AMAZING GRACE that He paid in full for us.

II. THE GATE OF HEAVEN WILL BE MADE OF ONE PEARL.

A. There will be 12 gates entering that Beautiful City, NEW JERUSALEM --- three on each side.

Rev. 21:21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

B. NOW WHERE DID GOD FIND AN OYSTER THAT BIG?

III. THERE WILL BE NO CHURCHES OR TEMPLE IN HEAVEN,

FOR THE FATHER AND HIS SON WILL BE THE TEMPLE!

Rev. 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

IV. HOW BEAUTIFUL HEAVEN MUST BE!

A. Have you ever considered HEAVEN?

My Mom told me when my Grandfather Sumner was asleep --- he woke up and described the ROSES he had seen in heaven during his sleep. He told them of the beauty of the huge roses and how vivid their colors were. He was amazed at all the roses he had seen.

B. Then he told something about the ROSES he saw in heaven, as he walked among the roses he noted --- THERE WAS NOT ONE THORN, THE ROSES AND THEIR

BEAUTY was not marred by the presence of thorns.

V. WHERE WE WILL NEVER GROW OLD.

A. ANOTHER NEAT ASPECT OF THE FLOWERS IN HEAVEN IS FOUND IN AN OLD SONG

B. . I LOVE THE OLD SONG --- NEVER GROW OLD.

I had a dear friend named Joe Arnett in eastern Kentucky. He had asked God to live to be 100 years old.

He was 70 and in amazing health. I was Joe’s pastor many years.

When Joe was 91 --- his health started failing, and Joe began a new prayer.

Joe begged God to send His angels and take him to his LONG HOME.

There was a new sparkle in Joe’s eyes, he carried a distant look in his eyes.

At 91 --- Joe was ready --- Joe had a longing in his heart for Jesus.

I was honored to return to the mountains and celebrate Joe’s life.

A year later I returned and did Rebecca’s funeral, her vision was dimmed.

Rebecca missed Joe, her soul mate of over 68 years was gone.

The trails and roads of many years had birthed a new desire to be TOGETHER AGAIN, TOGETHER FOREVER, where we will never grow old.

C. My Grandfather Hughes used to sing the song. Then my Dad sang the song! I wonder what is so bad about growing old, but today --- as I travel to rest homes

and watch us age, I now sing the song with great expectations.

D. I HEARD OF A LAND ON THAT FAR AWAY STRAND, ’Tis a beautiful home of the soul. Built by Jesus on high, where we shall never die,

’Tis a land WHERE WE WILL NEVER GROW OLD...

E. The last verse says:

When our work here is done, and our life-crown has been won, And our troubles and trials are o’er,

All our sorrows will end --- AND OUR VOICES WILL BLEND,

WITH LOVED ONES WHO HAVE GONE ON BEFORE.

F. WHAT WILL BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING IN HEAVEN?

Rev. 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

G. There will be a beautiful river flowing down from the THRONE OF GOD.

The waters of this river will be AS CLEAR AS CRYSTAL.

How beautiful that river must be.

I was preaching once and I said I was going to pull off my shoes, wade out into the river and go fishing.

A little old lady stopped me right in the sermon and informed me there would be no fish in that river!

Well I don’t know if there will be fish or there will be no fish in that river?

And it really does not matter either way?

But in my humble opinion there will be some of the biggest, prettiest rainbow trout swimming in that crystal water.

H. We do know the LAMB will lay down by the LION!

VI. THERE WILL BE HUGE BEAUTIFUL TREES.

A. I love to look at huge, beautiful old trees.

Driving into town, there is an old oak tree that I always slow down and enjoy taking in the oaks endurance of time.

B. One tree in heaven is called the TREE OF LIFE.

Rev. 22:2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

C. I was asked many years ago, why the tree had leaves for healing in a place where there will be no sickness? I studied this several years, and I heard an

old preacher say this was the TREE OF LIFE that was in Genesis.

God had to remove the TREE OF LIFE from man’s reach.

If man is sinful and mean knowing he is facing death, just imagine how terrible this world would be if the criminal mind knew that he would never face death.

God moved the TREE OF LIFE to the safety by the river that proceeds out of the THRONE.

VII. JUST TRY TO IMAGINE THE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC AND SINGING AS THE CHOIR WILL BE COMPOSED OF THE SAINTS OF THE AGES.

A. Years ago, I was at a Dottie and Buck Rambo concert, as she sang for the first time

in the USA --- HE LOOKED BEYOND MY FAULTS AND SAW MY NEEDS.

I thought I was walking on air.

B. I heard Vestal Goodman’s next to last Gaither Concert.

Vestal was standing in the darkness and started singing. My hair on my neck raised straight up. Howard was gone, the longing for Jesus was in Vestal’s voice. The spot light illuminated a tired, worn out body, but the voice was clear and the message was clearer, Vestal

sang for a MASTER THAT HAD LEAD HER DOWN MANY TWISTED TRAILS.

One more concert, and Vestal joined the heavenly choir.

C. They will sing many wonderful old hymns, but the voices will blend to sing,

A NEW SONG.

D. The angels will be silent for a space of time as the saints sing a new song, together in perfect harmony the saints will declare: REDEEMED, I AM REDEEMED

BY LOVE DIVINE, GLORY --- GLORY CHRIST IS MINE.

E. Little David will have his harp in tune.

SELAH, there will be a rest in the words and David will be featured.

I hope to have my guitar waiting for my time to stand before God and play the redemption song and bring praise and glory to God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Chet Atkins will have to sit back and listen as I play for my Master and Savior.

F. There will be no applause for the individual musicians, as all glory will be directed to the God head.

G. Then the angels will so sweetly be singing, harmonious chords and notes from the golden harps will be ringing. Then the angels voices will blend with the choir of the saints from the beginning of this world, and will will worship and praise our God as He deserves!

VIII. WHAT IS THE MOST WONDERFUL --- BEAUTIFUL THING IN HEAVEN?

A. That answer is simple --- THE FACE OF JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR.

B. O, I WANT TO SEE HIM, LOOK UPON HIS FACE, THERE TO SING FOR EVER --- Can you imagine JESUS’ EYES OF COMPASSION.

I just want to LAY AT JESUS FEET.

C. If I have merited any rewards or crowns, I want to take it and lay it at Jesus’ feet. I deserve nothing. I want to present the fruit and efforts invested on

earth and give it to my Savior and Lord.

IX. WHILE WE HAVE DISCUSSED WHAT WILL BE IN HEAVEN, PART OF HEAVEN WILL BE WHAT IS NOT THERE.

Let us think about what will not be in heaven.

The book of Revelation list 7 NO MORES IN HEAVEN!

1. THERE WILL BE NO MORE SEA ---

Rev. 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

a. Why will there be no more seas?

Water, seas, oceans divide people.

b. People get land locked.

Transportation and togetherness are often hindered by the sea.

c. Often while traveling by water we have swells or disturbances that bring death and heartache.

d. TIDAL WAVES OR TSUNAMIS --- great waves produced by marine earth movement or volcanic eruptions can be deadly and tear structures to sheds.

e. Great storms and hurricanes and their destructive forces spawn in the world’s body’s of water.

2. THERE WILL BE NO MORE TEARS ---

Rev. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;

a. A TEAR IS MORE THAN A DROP OF SALINE FLUID SECRETED BY THE LACRIMAL GLAND to moisten the eye.

b. A tear can moisten the face and neck.

c. A tear can be in joy, but is normal weeping and brokeness.

d. TEARS ARE A LANGUAGE GOD UNDERSTANDS, AND WE IN UNDERSTAD IN COMPASSION AND HELP OTHERS.

3. THERE SHALL BE NO MORE DEATH.

Rev. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death,

a. I was speaking at a funeral, I said there would be no UNDERTAKERS or MORTICIANS in heaven. After the funeral, the Funeral Director corrected me.

He said, Preacher --- I have made my preparations to go to heaven years ago,

Jesus is my Savior.

WHAT I MEANT TO SAY WAS:

THERE WILL BE NO FUNERAL HOMES AND NO PRACTICING UNDERTAKERS THERE.

b. There is not one little grave in all that land.

c. Death here is a permanent cessation of all vital functions.

The loss of life is death.

The destroyer of life comes and separates us from our known existence.

d. We have someone with us in the VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH --- WHERE THERE IS A SHADOW THERE IS GREAT LIGHT.

e. DEATH HAS A STING ---

ONCE BORN TWICE DEATH.

TWICE BORN ONCE DEATH.

f. Death is the final separation as we know it.

4. THERE SHALL BE NO MORE SORROW ---

Rev. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no

more death, neither sorrow,

a. What is sorrow?

Distress, sadness, regret

To lose something you loved

b. What causes unhappiness and unpleasantness

The cause of grief or sadness

Anguish

c. Woe --- inconsolable misery

Pain caused by disappointment

A fruitless longing

5. THERE SHALL BE NO MORE CRYING:

Rev. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be

no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,

a. Crying is a little different than just tears.

To cry is to:

Utter loudly

To beg, to beseech

To sob, weep loudly

Little hope, no remedy

Vain regrets for what cannot be recovered or undone

A Cry can be outrage or distress

A fit, to howl, wail.

b. Have you ever cried yourself to sleep?

No more of that in heaven.

6. THERE SHALL BE NO MORE PAIN...

Rev. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

a. PAIN IS TERRIBLE. IN IT’S WORSE FORM THERE IS NO RELEASE FROM PAIN.

Pain pills and even shots can’t relieve terrible pain.

b. PAIN:

To hurt

Suffering

Disorder

Sensation induced by noxious sensations

Naked nerve endings

Discomfort

Troubled

Irks, or annoys

c. Pain can be mental or emotional distress or grief.

No more arthritis, no more gout, no cold’s or sinus infections, no vomiting, no COPD or Asthma, no swelling, no high blood pressure,

No strokes, No heartburn, no more SID’s,

No more migraine headaches. No more fevered brows.

No more strep throat, tonsillitis. No toothaches, no back pain

No more aids, no more cancer. No heart attacks!

Wow, I want to be there.

7. THERE SHALL BE NO MORE NIGHT, NO DARKNESS...

Rev. 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.

Rev. 22:5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

a. Ask any nurse sickness is always worse at night.

More people die during dark hours.

More criminal behavior is reported during darkness.

Lovers of evil love darkness. Darkness is devoid of light.

Darkness lacks understanding.

b. In heaven Jesus is the light house!

His light is eternal and opens vision.

8. THERE WILL BE NO MORE CURSE!

Rev. 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

a. Because of Adam and Eve and our sin man failed God.

b. This sin failure brought about THE CURSE.

c. Flowers fade. Snake bites, insect stings, poison ivy.

Dust bunnies grow.

Thorns and thistles thrive.

The pain during child birth.

The sweat of man’s brow.

Accursed, harm, injury, misfortune, evil

Torment

Affliction

Judgment, separation, divorce, death damnation.

I LONG FOR HEAVEN FOR WHAT WILL BE THERE, BUT JUST AS WONDERFUL

IN HEAVEN WILL BE WHAT WON’T BE THERE.
