Everyone must answer that question. How we answer it will determine our eternal destination.
But you say why are you asking me that question I’m a Christian so you should know that I know Who Jesus Is?
Jesus asked that question over two thousand years ago. He asked it of His disciples – men who had followed Him; had heard the Sermon on the Mount; had seen the leper and the centurion’s servant and Peter’s mother – in – law healed; the storm on the sea clamed; devils cast out; the woman healed by touching His garment in a crowd, two blind men’s sight restored, two demon-possessed men freed from torment and made whole, the 5,000 fed, the 4,000 fed and much more.
They (his disciples) sat at His feet as he taught them about influence, radiant life, the law, spiritual standards, purity, sacredness of marriage, oaths and profanity, unlimited service, love, divine standards of life, benevolence, prayer, fasting, heavenly rewards, providence, concern. Yet He asked them all, “But who say ye that I am? / But who do you say that I am?
It is a question that still must be answered today. It has been asked millions of times since Jesus asked it of His disciples and answered millions of times. And it is still asked today, and will be asked tomorrow; each time, an answer is required. But who do you say that I am?
So I ask you again Who do you say Jesus is / Who Is Jesus to you?
Is He just a man to you? Possibly just a prophet of God? Maybe a morally good man and teacher?
Maybe a good man who lived long ago, a philosopher perhaps?
Is it really that necessary to have the exact answer of Who Christ Is?
1st of all, if you are building your faith on the wrong foundation, you are going to collapse some day. Everything you build upon a crooked foundation will not only collapse but will stack up as crooked as your foundation. You have resources to learn the truth and God will hold you responsible for the truth that He puts before you.
2ndly, you could be following and believing in ANOTHER Jesus that Saint Paul wrote about in his epistles. Another Jesus will not be able to bring you into the Father’s kingdom.
What people say about Jesus is one thing. What we say as Christian is quite another. While it is interesting to hear what others say about Jesus, what we say really makes all the difference in terms of how we live our lives.
After Jesus had inquired what people were saying about Him, He turned the question to the disciples and asked them what they thought. He said, Who do you say that I am.” He wanted to know what conclusions they had come to concerning Him. Based on their experience of Him, had they come to see Him for whom He really was? This was the issue for them, and it is still the issue for US.
Have we come to the truth concerning Jesus for ourselves? You see, it is not simply what we believe intellectually about Jesus, it is important that the truth about Him has so gripped us that it makes a difference in the way we live. Has knowing that Jesus Christ is truly Lord made a difference in our lives?
I want to mainly look at what Jesus says about Himself.
In John 10:30 Jesus says “I and the Father are one.” The Jews knew He was claiming to be God for they picked up stones to stone Him. They said “for a good work we do not stone You but for blasphemy; and because You being a man, make Yourself out to be a God.
In John 14:11 Jesus said “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me …..” Jesus though distinct from the Father is in essence one with the Father.
Jesus as recorded in John 8:38 said “before Abraham was born, I Am. That phrase “I AM” was used by God in Exodus 3:14 to describe Himself. So Jesus by saying “I Am” was telling the Jews and us that He is God.
Jesus is God; the second person of the Trinity. He is the God-Man who came to offer Himself as the sacrifice for our sins.
But who do you say that I am?
As we look at our lives, we find that often we have not been very good about saying that Jesus is Our Lord and Savior and the center of our life.
Walk with Jesus and your love for Him will grow deeper everyday.
It does not matter who we are He and you can fellowship together.
Let me share with you what knowing Who Jesus is means in terms of my life.
Knowing the truth about Jesus’ love for me means that I can trust Him with my life. It means that I know that He wants the best for me.
Knowing that He shed His blood on Calvary’s Cross means that I can have confidence that any and every sin can be forgiven through His sacrifice. It means that there is no sin so terrible that Jesus cannot forgive it. It means that when I confess my sins I know that Jesus Christ will forgive those sins. Knowing that Christ died on the Cross for me means that I can trust that I have eternal life in Him.
Knowing that Jesus Christ is Lord means that I can bow before Him in worship. Knowing that He is who He said He was means that I am in contact with the living and divine Son of God. It means that I am in touch with the highest power in the universe. It also means that I can trust in His sovereign will for my life that it will be accomplished just as He planned it to be.
Knowing about Jesus brought me to Him, but Knowing Jesus has changed my life. Jesus lived, died, and rose again from the dead. He lives today. And you and I can know Him personally and intimately. To know Jesus will forever impact what we say about Him. When we come to know Him then we will come to truly know who He really is.
The Son of Man was also the Son of God, who died on a Cross for the sins of mankind. One day this same Jesus will return again and He will be the judge of all the earth. Every man, woman, boy and girl will be brought before Him. What others said about Him will not make very much difference then. But what YOU say will. When you stand before Jesus the real question will be What You said concerning Him? Did you acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior, Your Lord and Savior, and did you live your life based on that knowledge? Knowing who He was, what did you do with that knowledge? Did it make all the difference in how you lived your life, or did it matter little?
WHO IS JESUS ?
Who is Jesus Christ? History has never known such as He. In infancy, He startled a king. As a boy, He stunned the theologians with His knowledge and wisdom, for His knowledge was directly from God.
In manhood, He ruled the elements and quieted the raging sea. He healed without medicine, and fed thousands from a boy’s lunch. Even demons obeyed Him and He gave back life to those who were dead.
Yet He suffered and sustained in body and soul the anger of God against the sin of the whole human race. He was despised and rejected of men. Though He was innocent, He was condemned by a civil judge and sentenced to death on a cross.
Who is Jesus Christ? Life-Changing Impact
Who is Jesus Christ? By His suffering and death, He paid completely for the sins of all who believe in Him. He set us free from the certain judgment and eternal condemnation of God that was to fall on all of us.
Some have given their lives for others, and great men have come and gone, yet Jesus Christ lives on. Herod could not kill Him. Satan could not stop him. Death could not destroy Him. The grave could not hold Him. Having fully satisfied God’s perfect justice, He conquered death and rose on the third day as He said He would.
Conclusion
Every one of us must personally answer the great question: who do you say that Jesus Christ, the Son of man, is? By God’s grace, may you answer correctly!
