Summary: God wants us to be a successful Christian.

Joshua 1:5-9

5. No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.

6. be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

7. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe and do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you: do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

8. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

9. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

How many of us this morning is dressed in promise?

Are you blood bought?

Are you striving to live for Christ?

Is there an obedience factor in your life?

Once we accept Jesus as our personal Savior, we are a people dressed in promise.

We have the promise that Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us.

We have the promise that the Holy Spirit would be given to the church in Acts chapter 2:38-39.

38. Then Peter said to them, repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins: and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.

The promise of the Holy Spirit is to you and your children, to all that are afar off.

We live in the Holy Ghost dispensation; God is still pouring His Spirit upon the church today.

Dreams and visions, signs and wonders!

In our opening scripture God told Joshua, there shall not any man be able to stand before you all the days of your life: as I was with Moses so I will be with you. I will not fail you nor forsake you.

Any enemy that would come before Joshua would not be able to stand, God was telling Joshua I was with Moses, now I am with you!

God was not going to fail Joshua; He was never going to leave Him alone.

It sounds to me like Joshua was dressed in promise.

Joshua had to be strong and courageous, He had to observe and do according to all the law.

His success depended upon his obedience to the Word of God.

Do we depend upon the Word of God today?

Joshua’s success depended upon not only hearing the Word, but applying it to his life.

Do we fill successful?

Joshua success not only depended on hearing the Word but applying it to his life.

Do we fill successful?

Joshua could not turn to the right or the left, He could not say that this part looks good but I don’t like that part.

He had to be obedient to the speaking voice of God.

Joshua 1:8 says this book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Israel was to talk the Word constantly; they were to think about it.

They were to train the up and coming generation about the things of God, they were to train their children in the ways of God.

They were to observe and to do all! If they did all God would make their way prosperous and they would have good success.

Verse 9 says have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage.

Go forward don’t be discouraged, God told Joshua “don’t be afraid”

God is telling us to go forward and not be discouraged, don’t be afraid!

Satan will blow and bluster, there is nothing He can do providing we continue to trust the Lord and move forward.

He’s telling us don’t be dismayed! There will be hindrances, but don’t let them side track you or slow you down.

The Lord your God is with you where ever you go, Satan is a liar who will be a fryer.

He’s already defeated.

Are you dressed for success, Are you dressed in promise?

The reason I preached this, this morning.

Dream 1-26-07

I dreamed that I was dressed in all yellow. I had on a yellow shirt, yellow shorts and I had on a pair of yellow shoes. I also had a yellow fan that I set on a stand. When I turned on this fan it would not stand. I grabbed a Bible and placed it on the back of the fan. Now it is standing.

Scene change

I’m now outside I am still dressed in yellow and I have my yellow fan. The fan is on and it is blowing grass off of a great big sidewalk. I’m sweeping of the side walk with a broom. I woke up.

Interpretation

Dressed in all yellow, dressed in promise

Yellow shoes – walking in promise

Yellow fan- wind, (Holy Spirit of promise)

The fan would not stand on its own it needed the Word to secure it.

The fan is now standing, faith without works is dead

Scene change

I am outside and still dressed in yellow and I have my yellow fan

The fan is blowing grass off of the sidewalk, and I’m helping with my broom

Mathew 3:12 whose fan is in His hand (the ancient method for winnowing grain)

And He will thoroughly purge His floor (purging it so it will bring forth more fruit)

And gather His grain into the garner (the end product as developed by the Spirit)

But He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire ((wheat symbolic of the work of the Spirit) (chaff work of the flesh)

Were just like Joshua we need to apply the Word to our lives.

Are we dressed for success, are we dressed in promise this morning?

What promises has God made to you? Are you dressed to receive them?

Closing

How many this morning wants to be dressed in promise?

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal savior this morning, ask Him to come into your heart. When you do this you are dressed in promise.

How many are dressed in promise but you want to be successful?

Start putting on the Word, and live in obedience to Jesus.

If God has literally made a promise to you live in obedience to His Word and I promise you He will bring the promise to past!
