Summary: Evil and good are at work in this world. Good always wins over evil. Jesus talked about it when He said (John 10:10 NIV) "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

I was sitting in Atlanta’s airport yesterday waiting for a connecting flight to take me home to Oregon when God began speaking to my heart about events that took place during the week. I began to see clearly the extremes of evil and good that is constantly at work around us.

Evil and good are at work in this world. Good always wins over evil. Jesus talked about it when He said (John 10:10 NIV) "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

MASS MURDER ON THE CAMPUS OF VIRGINIA TECH.

This past Monday, April 16, 2006, mass murder took place on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. Thirty two innocent people loss their life at the hand of one disturbed and evil individual. We witnessed the senseless taking of life and our country has been in shock and mourning.

Evil is constantly at work in this world. The devil is busy trying to bring death and destruction not only to our lives, but to nations and people groups as a whole. We see it happening through genocide in Sudan. We see it happening through civil war in Iraq.

HEART WALK IN HUNTINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA.

I had the honor to speak at the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk in Huntington, West Virginia yesterday morning, April 21, 2007. As I looked out over all the people that came that day to walk so that others may live, God reminded me that good was also at work in this world. I was instantly encouraged and felt hope overtake hopeless feelings that had crept in during the week as I watched news casts concerning the slayings at Virginia Tech.

There is good happening all around us through common folk that just want to make a difference in our day and help others. There are organizations like the American Heart Association that is helping people win the war against the number one killer of heart disease and the number three killer of stroke. There are people like Denise Springer, the regional manager of the American Heart Association in West Virginia, that has dedicated their life to make a difference in the well being of others. And there are seas of volunteers like I spoke to yesterday that are giving their time and finances in order that others can have life.

GOOD ALWAYS WINS OVER EVIL.

Good always wins over evil. We are shown this at the cross of Christ. Jesus suffered a violent death. Jesus’ followers watched as He was crucified and wondered how anything good could ever come out of the evil acts they saw Him go through as He was tortured and nailed to a cross on a Friday evening. On Sunday morning they witness good triumphing over evil when Christ was raised from the dead.

You may find yourself seemingly overtaken by evil. In this world bad things happen to good people. Always remember that Sunday is on the way! Constantly remind yourself of the cross and the resurrection. Good always wins over evil.

Beloved, (Romans 8:28 NIV) "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." You have been called according to God’s purpose. He not only will turn what was meant for evil in your life to good, but He will use you to do good in the midst of an evil world. Spend your life on this earth making a difference. Do not spend all of your expendable time in church activity. Get involved in your community. Get involved in organizations like the American Heart Association, the Union Gospel Mission, Habitat for Humanity and the Red Cross. Be like Jesus and minister at the point of need. As you do, you will be loving God, He will be working His purposes through you and good will triumph over evil.
