God-fearing mothers are God-given blessings not only to our homes but also to our society. We cannot imagine how wicked our land would be without the presence of godly mothers in our homes. What an edifying sight to see a godly mother leading her children to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Spiritual investment is truly rewarding.
The amazing result of spiritual investment into a child’s life is well-illustrated by the lives of Lois and Eunice. The high-impact of their faith on Timothy’s life was undeniable. In II Timothy 1:5, it is written, When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. (KJV) We strongly believe that we need Lois-like and Eunice-like mothers in our homes to produce Timothy-like young men in our Churches today.
The Bible reminds us of the great value and importance of godly women in our midst. In Proverbs 31:10, it is written, Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. (KJV) This passage helps us to realize of the rarity of virtuous women in our days. It reminds us also of the incomparable value and quality of a virtuous woman.
A virtuous woman is far better than physically attractive beauty queens. Her moral character so strong stands out above women whose beauty is just passing and deceiving. In Proverbs 31:30, it is written, Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. (KJV)
A careful study of Proverbs 31:10-31 will help us to gain a wider scope of understanding concerning God-fearing mother. As we contemplate on the Word of God, may our hearts be touched and become sensitive toward this relevant message so we may realize the complexities of works every mother has to accomplish in this present life. We really need to pray for God-fearing mothers.
(I) Trustworthy Mother
Proverbs 31:10-12
-The value of a trustworthy mother is more than precious stones
Trustworthy people are priceless and a God-fearing mother is incomparable. The Bible says in Proverbs 31:11-12, The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. (KJV) A husband with a God-fearing wife is a happy man. The unquestionable faithfulness of his wife makes him live in peace and in truth all the days of their married life.
Trustworthy mothers are great and delightful jewels not to be forgotten, but to be well-spoken of. Their lives shine and touch more lives to walk in the way of truth.
(II) Hard-working Mother
Proverbs 31:13-22
-Goal-oriented
A goal-oriented mother will surely be rewarded by the Lord according to the measure of her faith. On the other hand, people without goal will experience hopelessness. Their random steps will lead them to the wilderness of desolation.
-Systematic
A systematic person will never stand on the line of mediocrity. He will not embrace idleness, but is well-focused on his work. A mother who is systematic and well-organized will be delighted by her astounding achievements in life. In Proverbs 31:14-15, it is written, She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. (KJV) What a systematic way of doing complex job.
-Resourceful
Resourcefulness is a plus when it comes to hitting one’s target. A resourceful mother is not easily hindered by negative situation, but always excited to do and accomplish her job because she possesses the needed creativity. She is also a wise buyer. In Proverbs 31:16-19, it is written, She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. (KJV)
-Helpful
Helpful people are not only a blessing to the needy, but also good examples of Christ-likeness. In Proverbs 31:20, it is written, She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. (KJV) A mother who is helpful will never be in want because we believe that God will supply all her needs. We must keep in mind that a helpful person is also a cheerful giver.
-Determined
Fears separate the cowards from the courageous. Speaking of determination, we know that no man can undermine a determined person. A God-fearing mother is not easily discouraged by unfriendly situation because she is always prepared to face such hindrance. In Proverbs 31:21, it is written, She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. (KJV) Without determination, who can accomplish great task? Christian homes are in need of godly and determined family members.
-Meticulous and creative
Meticulous and creative people are unique people. They do quality works with aesthetical value. In Proverbs 31:22-24, it is written, She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. (KJV) Meticulous mothers are distinction setters. Truly, the works of their hands reflect their God-given peculiarity.
(III) Godly Home Builder
Proverbs 31:23-31
-Wisdom-filled
In wisdom there is strength and honor. A wisdom-filled mother is a strong home builder. In Proverbs 31:25-26, it is written, Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. (KJV) Words of kindness are more powerful than cruel swords.
-Inspiring example
Through the ages, many people become great in their own category because their mothers inspired them significantly. Undeniably, mothers are influential people. In Proverbs 31:27-29, it is written, She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. (KJV) May our children’s lives reflect the image and faith of their God-fearing mothers.
-Praiseworthy
It may break our hearts, but we know that many homes are being shattered because of the absence of strong home builder. Obviously, wicked family members are home destroyers. They are so proud of their deceitful philosophies of life not knowing that their homes are being destroyed by the devil in a heart-breaking way.
True believers are in a position to build and strengthen their homes, but it takes spiritual consistency to do the job. Be aware that fear of God maintains spiritual reliability. We must also keep in mind that outside fear of God there is no spiritual wisdom. Fear of God produces sound wisdom while fear of man brings forth guile.
A God-fearing mother is a strong home builder. Her home will shine for Christ and her children will be guided by the Word of Truth. She is not only praised during Mother’s Day, but through out the days of her life. The works of her hands will prosper and her desires in life will be granted by the Lord because her unfeigned faith gives glory to God.
