Summary: What’s your Delight? Are you missing out on life? God wants to give you the desires of your heart, all you need do is this...

At the Billy Graham Phone Center, this past week, we handled 92 calls, and 36 of those callers received Jesus as their Lord and Savior. And THAT makes me want to SHOUT!

What’s your Delight?

Psalm 37:4

Scriptures on Delight

Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Ps 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Ps 22:8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

Ps 35:9 And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation

Isaiah 61:10-11 NIV

10 I delight greatly in the LORD;

my soul rejoices in my God.

For he has clothed me with garments of salvation

and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness,

as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,

and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up

and a garden causes seeds to grow,

so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise

spring up before all nations.

What is Delight?

Delight means Happiness and may refer to someone or something that brings such a state, such as good-tasting food.

We’ve all heard of Sunny Delight. The orange drink

Terri’s Mom makes a wonderful Cherry Delight

Some folks delight in Chocolate. Anyone here…….???????

Let me read what I read about chocolate the other day.

Rules of chocolate:

If you’ve got melted chocolate all over your hands, you’re eating it too slowly.

Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices and strawberries all count as fruit, so eat as many as you want.

The problem: How to get 2 pounds of chocolate home from the store in a hot car. The solution: Eat it in the parking lot.

A nice box of chocolates can provide your total daily intake of calories in one place. Isn’t that handy?

If you can’t eat all your chocolate, it will keep in the freezer. But if you can’t eat all of your chocolate, what’s wrong with you?

What do we call equal amounts of dark chocolate and white chocolate: a balanced diet.

Chocolate has many preservatives. Preservatives make you look younger.

Put “eat chocolate” at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you’ll get one thing done.

A. To take delight in something is to get great pleasure, be happy about, make merry over, and derive enjoyment.

B. Many men seem to delight in sports. For others it’s camping, fishing, or hunting.

C. Women delight in shopping.

D. Youth delight in video games. College students delight in parties.

E. One might identify delight in this way. It is what happens when there is excitement inside, a tingle, a spark. When we are doing what we really love to do, or when we are with someone we really love. Like what one young lover said to his partner, “When I held you in my arms, I felt a cold chill run down my spine. I thought it was true love until I realized your pop sickle was dripping.”

Delight means happiness, or someone or something that brings such a state.

The problem is, folks are always looking for happiness, and only finding a temporary fix.

Foods are only temporary. They may make you feel better, but if you get too much it could make you sick.

And once you are done, in a few hours you will need more.

Friends and families can bring us delight. My children can be my delight by day and …..well… [SIGH] sometimes they can be something else by night….[LAUGH]

The problem is. When we look for our delight in people or things, we find that we will be disappointed, or find a void when its gone. Sometimes it can even turn sour on us. Like the saying goes. To much of a good thing…

So. What is your Delight?

Psalm 37:4 tells us that we need to Delight ourselves in the Lord, and He will give us the Desires of our heart.

So, if we Delight, or make ourselves happy in the Lord, He will provide us with the happiness, and the desires we need.

How many folks out there are trying to find happiness in all the wrong places. This verse tells us, where we can find HAPPINESS.

Other people can let us down. God will never do that. He will never leave nor forsake you, the bible says in HEBREWS 13:5

I am learning about Delighting in the Lord. He has put a song in my heart, when I am down and out. He lifts me up. It is a delight, happiness, joy, to know I’ve a Savior, a God who loves me so much and cares for me. I can go to him and cast my cares and troubles upon him.

We can’t count on anything temporal, anything in this world for our happiness. Only God can truly provide that.

I look out here and wonder. Does everyone here know what I’m talking about. Sure, I can see some of you by the evidence on your faces. But We can also put up a front, we can act one way but be something else on the inside.

My kids have stood before you and recited from 1 Samuel. “God doesn’t look on the outward appearance, he looks at our heart”

If God looks at our heart, and its not for him. How can we find delight in Him. For we never knew him.

Do you really know him. Have you really truly deep down to your soul come to the point that you know him.

Many have grown up in the church, been baptized or christened as a baby and believe that we are saved.

Its more than that. Its personal. God wants to know us personally. That is why he sent Jesus here, to walk this earth.

So how do we know him.

First, we must realize our separation from him. Its our sin that separates us from God.

We are all sinners. Did you hear me. Romans 3:23 says we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

If we are IN our Sin. How can we delight in GOD?

We need to realize this one thing in order to move on.

But I’m a good person. Ok, maybe you never killed a person, and lived a morally good life. Have you ever in your life told a lie, or gossiped one stitch?

This is sin.

We are all sinners.

We need to be forgiven.

We need a savior

Rom 5:8. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us

Receive him and believe, We are given the right to become children of God John 1:12

But How can we Delight ourselves in God?

In order to Delight in God, we must first and foremost know HIM.

Well of course I know him Bill, I’ve been going to Church ever since I was a child.

Have you ever really admitted that you were a sinner, and needed a Savior?

You have to realize that no matter how good or moral you are, you have sinned. Rom says we all have sinned and fallen short

But have you ever really truly asked him into your life, that you might delight in Him?

Do it now…

You can ask Him into your heart right now,

That you might…

Delight yourself…

In the LORD.

Pray with me.
