FIVE MARVELOUS FACTS CONCERNING OUR SAVIOR

From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also want to go away?" But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. "Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." John 6:66-68

Each point in this outline is worthy of a sermon of its own, but because of their value in connection to each other, we will look at all five of these truths in today’s message.

I. CHRIST, ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!

Jesus Is Absolutely The Only Way To God, To Eternal Life; And To Heaven!

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

He Is The Bread Of Life For The Hungry Soul (John 6:48)

"I am the bread of life. This is the bread which comes down from heaven that one may eat of it and not die.” (John 6:48; 50)

He Is The Living Water For The Thirsty Soul (John 4:10)

Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ’Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." John 4:10

He Is The Light Of Life For Sin-Darkened Mankind (John 12:46)

"I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.”

II. CHRIST, INSTANTLY ACESSIBLE!

The Psalmist wrote: “Thou art near, O LORD!” (Psalm 119:151)

“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.” Psalm 145:18

Moses wrote: “"For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is the LORD (YAHWEH) our God (Elohim) whenever we call on Him?” (Deuteronomy 4:7 NIV)

The child of God does not have to “take a number and wait until you are called”. Our access is instant, there is no waiting period. The Bible says: “Behold, now is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation!” (2 Corinthians 6:2)

There is no chain of command that we have to go through to enter His presence. We do not have to go through any man, any group of men, or report first to some angelic desk to be cleared for access to Him. The Bible says: “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

III. CHRIST, TOTALLY SUFFICENT!

And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9)

We have seen where He is totally sufficient in salvation. Not Jesus Christ plus good works; not Jesus Christ plus some earthly denominational affiliation. The hymn says it well: “What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!”

We can testify that He is totally sufficient in meeting all of life’s problems. The promise, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19) goes far beyond merely having food on our table or clothes on our back. We need to keep the emphasis on the word “ALL” because life has needs that are spiritual, emotional, physiological and intellectual.

IV. CHRIST, SINGULARLY SATISFYING!

“Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.” (Psalm 107:8-9)

Billy Graham once said that God has placed a spiritual vacuum in the heart of every man that only Jesus Christ can fill. That is absolutely true! Man may dabble in any one or more of the “isms” of the world but no real satisfaction is experienced apart from a trusting faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. A man may say that the “ism” he embraces is “good enough to live by” but the real test is “is it good enough to die by?” In the final analysis, only a regenerative faith in Jesus Christ will pass that test.

V. CHRIST, ETERNALLY THE SAME!

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

And: "You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail." Hebrews 1:10-12 (Psalm 102:25-27)

What wonderful and glorious truth this is! Praise God we do not serve a vacillating deity! Who He was, He is, and forever shall be! What He has said, He will do! The promises He has made, He will keep! And those whom He did foreknow, these He will ultimately glorify! AMEN.
