Summary: Because life is short, you shouldn’t be idle. Make the best use of your life in discovering and doing God’s purpose in these end times.

“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away.” - Psalm 39:4

Psalm 119:19 - “I am here on earth for just a little while.” (TEV)

I. TO MAKE THE BEST USE OF YOUR LIFE, YOU MUST NEVER FORGET TWO TRUTHS:

1.Compared with eternity, life is extremely brief.

Because life is short, you shouldn’t be idle. Make the best use of your life in discovering and doing God’s purpose in these end times.

2.Earth is only a temporary residence.

We are just pilgrims here. How do you leave a mark?

Psalm 39:4 (LB) - “Lord help me to realize how brief my time on earth will be. Help me to know that I am here for but a moment more.”

II. THE BIBLE COMPARES LIFE ON EARTH TO TEMPORARY LIVING IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY.

Psalm 119:19 (NLT) - “I am but a foreigner here on earth.”

In U.S., foreigners are required to carry a visitor registration card (green card), which allows them to work even though they aren’t citizens.

Earth is not our final home. We were created for a much better place.

III. REALIZING THAT LIFE ON EARTH IS JUST TEMPORARY, THIS ASSIGNMENT SHOULD RADICALLY ALTER YOUR VALUES.

II Corinthians 4:18 (NIV) – “We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

God has called us to do His works and to fulfill His purposes.

Just for a little while, we can give our life to his service.

ILLUSTRATION:

A retiring missionary was coming home to U.S.A. on the same boat as the president of the U.S. Cheering crowds, a military band, a red carpet, banners, and the media welcomed the president home. But the missionary slipped off the ship unnoticed. Feeling self-pity and resentment, he began complaining to God . Then God gently reminded him, “My child, you’re not home yet.”

CONCLUSION:

At death you won’t leave home, you’ll go home. Anytime that death knocks on you, are you ready to go home?
