Summary: What we as Christians need to do is get Back to the Word and live by the example that it gives us.

Back To The Word

Hebrews 2:1-4

1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. {let...: Gr. run out as leaking vessels}

2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? {gifts: or, distributions}

1 Corinthians 13:11 says: “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” {thought: or, reasoned} {put away: Gr. vanish away}

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man I put away childish things.

When you were a child, you spake as a child, you understood as a child, you thought as a child, but when you became a man or a woman, you hopefully, put away childish things.

Church, it is time that we become all that we can become in Christ Jesus, it is time that some of us get off of the milk and it is time for some of us to get on the meat of the Word.

It is time that we start to grow up in the things of God.

It is time that, we as a church and as a people of God, get back to the Word.

Hebrews 2:1 says: Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. {let...: Gr. run out as leaking vessels}

We need to give an earnest heed to the things which we have heard, we don’t want to let them slip from our lives.

We don’t want to let them slip; In the Greek let means run out as leaky vessels.

The question this morning is, “What have we heard?”

Have we heard John 3:16 and 17?

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Have we heard that Jesus died for our sins?

Hebrews 12:1-3

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. {author: or, beginner}

3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

This is referring to the Old Testament Saints who looked forward to the coming promise, who is the Lord Jesus Christ and what He would do at the Cross to redeem mankind.

As a Christian, I am also in this race that has been run by a great many Saints who have overcome the things of this world, and have placed their eyes on the Author and Finisher of our faith.

Without Jesus going to the Cross, there would be no redemption of mankind.

Jesus will carry us through until the end, if I stay focused in this race of life that I am running and let Jesus lead me in the way that He wants me to go.

Hebrews 12:3

3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

When we start to get tired of running our race of life, think about what Christ did and push on.

Hebrews 2:2-3

3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? {gifts: or, distributions}

At different times God has used Angels to speak the Word to individuals.

Sin is addressed at the Cross, or else it will be addressed in judgment, every person has a choice.

Hebrews 2:3 says, “How shall we escape if we neglect so great Salvation?”

If we neglect Christ and the Cross and what He did for us, we will end up in Hell.

God gave people in the Old and New Testament signs and wonders.

He gave them different miracles at different times to confirm what He was saying.

Church, He has given us the Holy Ghost and fire.

He has given us gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.

I believe in God and I believe in Jesus, and I believe in the Holy Spirit.

I believe what the Word says: so when the Word says that He has given us gifts according to His own will, then I just so happen to believe what He says.

What we need this morning is to go “Back to the Word”, back to the things that we have been taught as a child and to give an earnest heed to the things that we have heard.

I’ve entitled this sermon:

Back to the Word and here is the reason why:

Dream 3-12-08

I dreamed that people from this Church and people that I used to go to Church with as a child went to the Church of a guy that I sometimes listen to on the radio “Back to the Word”. We stayed for the service and after the service, as we were leaving, the Pastor walked up to me and I introduced myself as Pastor Joe Rowland from the Wind of Faith Pentecostal Church of God. He just said one word “Oh!”. He just wanted to let me leave without saying a word.

Interpretation

As a Church, we need to get back to what the Word of God teaches.

Not everyone is always going to believe what I believe, and this pastor does not.

But I can not and will not be ashamed of what God has revealed to me.

I am a Pentecostal and I need to get back to the basics of my beliefs.

We need some old school fire from God’s Word.

I am not ashamed to say that I believe in the gifts of the Spirit.

I am not ashamed to say that I believe in the Holy Ghost baptism and speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.

Not every one will believe that God is speaking and that the Rapture of the Church is at hand.

I am not ashamed to say that Jesus Christ is coming back and according to the Word, that the generation that saw Israel become a nation will see this take place.

Mathew 24:32:51

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. {it: or, he}

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;

49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. {cut...: or, cut him off}

I have said this before and I will say this again that the Fig tree is Israel.

Israel became a nation again in 1948, and Jerusalem became the capital in 1967.

We just read that when this happens, this generation will not pass until all of these things are fulfilled.

We live in a day that was just like it was in the days of Noah, they were eating and drinking and sin was running ramped.

They didn’t listen to the message that Noah preached.

He preached that the rain was going to come and that there was going to be a flood.

He preached repentance and right living.

The flood came and wiped out the non-believers.

Here’s what I am trying to get across, warn people to get back to what the Word of God teaches.

Jesus is coming back and if I take the Word for what it says and I do, this is the generation that Christ will return.

On 6-11-07 I had the following dream:

The Angel Gabriel is getting ready to sound that trumpet!

I dreamed that I was at the church preaching. In the dream, I told the people that I believed God was getting ready to tell the Angel Gabriel to sound that trumpet. I said that I believed the might already have his lips on the trumpet. I started to sing the song, “Changed in the Twinkling of an Eye”.(check out the song)

Interpretation

People, according to the Bible, get ready! Jesus is coming soon!

On 2-3-05 I had another dream:

Behind The Clouds

I dreamed Jesus was getting ready to come back in the air. I could even see Him preparing to do so behind the clouds. I knew that the moment we lived in was a time of grace.

Interpretation

Jesus is coming back soon; we’re living in a time of grace.

(rapture)

Closing

Maybe we need to get back to the Word!
