Summary: God showed me in a dream that even when I fill like I am on a ledge and I fill like I’m about ready to fall that Jesus is on that ledge with me. His hand is outstretched to help me no matter what I am going through.

Beyond The Ledge

Psalm 16:1-11

1 Michtam of David.>> Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;

3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. {hasten...: or, give gifts to another}

5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

I have entitled this today: Just Beyond the Ledge.

David, this morning, had put his trust in God and he was not going to be moved.

Verse one says: “Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.”

All of the verses of this Psalm refer to the coming Messiah, except the first two verses which refer to David.

Verse two says:

2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;

This could be translated, “you are my Lord, I have no good beyond and apart from you; you are my highest and only good.

David understood that he had no good beyond and apart from God.

The Word tells me “that there is none good, not even one, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Psalm16:4

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. {hasten...: or, give gifts to another}

Anything other than “Christ and Him crucified” is another God. “Another Jesus”

2 Corinthians 11:4

4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. {with him: or, with me}

If it is not in the Word of God, then don’t accept it.

If it is not about the Jesus that the Word talks about, then don’t have anything to do with it.

Psalm 16:5

5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

As a child of God, we have an inheritance, and we have a Godly heritage.

Psalm 16:7

7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

God gave David counsel and He instructed him in the night seasons.

Again, as a child of God, we have an inheritance, and we have a Godly heritage.

Just like David we have to bless the Lord, who hath given us counsel in the night.

God will instruct me in the night seasons.

I’ve entitled this today:

Just beyond the ledge.

As a Christian, have you ever felt like you were on a ledge and you were about to fall?

Have you ever felt that you could not make it through the situation that you were going through?

When we are on the ledge, and it looks like we are going to fall, reach out because just beyond the ledge is Jesus, and He is waiting for you to call to Him so He can help you.

The reason that I preached this today:

The other day I was talking to God and I was telling Him that I could not do this without Him.

I told God that I needed help.

This is what the Lord spoke to me:

Dream 4-28-08

I dreamed that another guy and I were on a ledge of stone. There was snow and ice on this ledge. I was trying to help this guy and myself across the path of stone. I saw a door, a literal door. I grabbed hold of the door so that I would not fall. As I grabbed hold of the door I noticed that the door was being held by ice and stone. The ice broke away from the door and the stone. It looked like I would fall. On the other side of the door was Jesus. He reached out His hand and He helped me across the ledge.

Interpretation

Another guy and I would represent me as a Pastor trying to help you.

Ledge of Stone is easy; Jesus is the Rock of my salvation.

There was snow and ice on this path that was a ledge of stone.

Snow and ice represents the Word of God.

White snow means purity, undefiled.

Ice-if you don’t pay attention to ice you might fall.

If you don’t pay attention to what the Word of God says you are on dangerous ground.

I saw a door a literal door.

Revalation 3:20

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Jesus is standing at the door, and He is knocking: if I hear His voice I will come in to Him, and will sup with Him, and He with me.

Sometimes, I might feel that I am going to give up and fall, but Jesus is standing at my door, and when I need Him, the Word tells me that He will show up and He will help me.

Jesus reached out His hand and He helped me over the ledge.

God gave David counsel in the night; he was instructed in the night seasons.

How many know that God has not changed what God did, what He will do again.

If we ask anything in Jesus’ Name, the Word tells me that He will show up.

Psalm 16:8

8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

David always set the Lord before himself: because He was at his right hand and he was not going to be moved.

David knew in whom he believed and he was going to push on.

Psalm 16:11

11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

God will show us the path of life, Are we asking, are we seeking, and are we knocking?

“In thy presence is fulness of joy; In God’s presence through His Son Jesus we have fullness of joy.”

We, as a church, need to get into His presence and seek His will.

Do we need the joy of the Lord in our lives’?

Are we at a place where we think we can’t go on?

Do you, this morning, feel like you are on a ledge and you can’t go on? Maybe you even feel like you are going to fall? Hold on!

Jesus is on that ledge with you, He wants you to know that you are on the brink of a Miracle; you’re on the brink of a breakthrough.

Jesus hears your cry, He sees where you’re at, and He will help you.

Maybe you are really going through it this morning, and you feel like you are being defeated.

Keep pushing; keep persevering, you will win the battle that you are going through.

John 14:12-21

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. {comfortless: or, orphans}

19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Greater works, but here is the catch, He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me:

Look at the end of verse 21 and will manifest myself to him.

Church, you might be on the ledge and feel that you are going to fall, but don’t give up!

Jesus will manifest Himself to you while you are on your ledge.

While you are going through it, keep His commandments, God works through obedience to the Word.

What path are you on this morning?

Is your path made of stone, and does it have ice and snow on it?

On your path of life, there is a door, and I promise you that Jesus is on your path of life, and He has the answer that you need.

Grab hold of that door and cry out this morning. The other day I got to a place of desperation.

I literally cried out to God and He literally showed me a door and He let me know that no matter what I go through He will be there for me.

“Beyond the Ledge” this morning is Jesus, and He has His hand extended to you and He will see you through.

Closing

Sing “I’ve Got Confidence”

God’s goodness is being extended to you this morning.

Job 33:14-18

14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, {he...: Heb. he revealeth, or, uncovereth}

17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. {purpose: Heb. work}

18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. {from perishing: Heb. from passing}

Are you on a ledge this morning, and you feel like giving up? Come up around the altars this morning.
