Summary: What the Greek says about the divinity of Christ from His claim to be the Alpha and Omega.

*******SERMON OUTLINE*******

The Beginning And The End...

I.

Praise the Lord!

How many in here tonight know that Jesus was

100 o/o God and 100 o/o man?

He was God wrapped in human flesh.

<<<<>>>>

There are three instances in the book of revelation,

where Jesus Himself declares His own equality

with God the Father.

Jesus says in three chapters of the book of

revelation,

that He is the Alpha and Omega the beginning

and the end or the first and the last. Amen?

Well, how many know that Alpha and Omega are

the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet?

If the book of revelation was written in Hebrew it

would say I am the aleph and tau

because those are the first and last letters of the

Hebrew alphabet.

In English it would have been the A and Z. Amen?

These two words together express fullness.

It doesn’t simply mean the beginning and the end.

How many know that it also includes everything in between?

When we say that somebody knows it all from A to Z,

We literally mean they know everything about

that subject. Amen?

They know it from start to finish and everything

in between.

II.

Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord (God), which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Is there anything different about that passage

from your KJV?

Your King James Bible leaves out the word God

after Lord.

According to the textus receptus which is the

basis for the King James it should be there.

So we have John, the writer of revelation, refer

to Christ as the Lord (kurios) God (theos) right

here in scripture.

So your Bible confirms the deity of Christ. Amen?

Not just here but all through the scriptures.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that Jesus was just

a man or a prophet,

Because how many knows that he’s so much

more than that.

People who tell you that they serve Jesus and

that He was only a man

Are really telling you that they don’t serve the

same Jesus that you serve.

There telling you that they’re a part of a cult. So

look out. Amen?

You know that Jesus is God.

He’s a third part of the trinity which makes up

the complete essence of God.

John not only told us that Jesus was Lord and

God,

Jesus Himself said it.

He started His statement off "I Am".

He said I Am the alpha and omega. "I Am"

He said Ego Eimi.

That’s 2 words Ego meaning I or Me,

And Eimi meaning I exist or it is I or I am.

Each word by itself means exactly what I told you,

But when they are put together there is added

emphasis to their meanings.

See if it were you and I talking we wouldn’t need

to say ego eimi.

We could just say eimi because by itself it means I am.

As a matter of fact as I went through my KJV

with my Strong’s this morning,

I looked up the word eimi.

And when ever some one else used that word

where it meant I am they only used the one

word to say I am,

But Jesus repeatedly adds this other word in

front to give it extra emphasis.

He’s not just saying I am, but He says I I Am or

Me I Am.

It could almost be interpreted I Am that I Am,

Because He’s actually saying I am I.

The one who needs no introduction.

The first and the last, etc. etc.

He’s saying He’s God.

Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

The word "beginning here is Arche.

It means origination or beginning or even chief

or first.

But here it’s used in an active sense.

He’s not saying I was in the beginning.

Or that I date back to the origination.

He’s saying I am the originator,

Or because of me there was a beginning.

How many knew that Jesus was the creator of

the heavens and the Earth?

All things were made by Him and for Him. Amen?

In John 1:1 it says in the beginning was the Word.

That word beginning is also Arche.

But here instead of being He Arche like we read

in Revelation,

Which translates "the beginning",

The words are En Arche which means "In

Beginning" and not in the beginning.

So what it really says is in beginning was the word.

Or first was Christ.

Before anything was created He was already in

existence.

And we know that all things were created by

Him and for Him. Amen?

Now let’s get back to Revelation.

Jesus said He was the beginning and the end.

Now that word end doesn’t mean that there is

going to be an end to God’s self existence.

But it means that just as Jesus was the cause of

creation or the cause of the beginning of this age,

He will also be the one who is going to

consummate His creation.

CONSUMMATE, v.t. [L. See Sum.] To end; to finish by completing what was intended; to perfect; to bring or carry to the utmost point or degree.

This is what’s called in the New Testament,

Sunteleia tou Aionos (soon te le a - to - ahee o nos).

Which Jesus spoke about in the book of Matthew.

Mat 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

Mat 13:40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

Mat 13:49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,

Mat 13:50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

In these scriptures and also in Matt. 24:3 & 28:20,

sunteleia to aionos is translated the end of the world,

But that is not what the Greek words mean.

The correct term is the consummation of the age.

Sunteleia is derived from Sun which means together,

And Telos which means complete.

And it means consummation.

But that word Telos is the word we have

translated in revelation as end.

So Jesus said He is the beginning or creator and

the end or the one who will complete.

The consummator...The Perfecter of this age. Amen?

The same God who created time and space will

also bring this world to a completion of it’s

present state of existence.

This ages purpose will be fulfilled and completed

in Jesus.

What that means is that this creation will not

forever remain as is.

It will be transformed....Changed...Perfected.

III.

Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

So so far we see that Jesus is saying He is the

Lord Our God, Creator, and the one who will

consummate this age.

And now we see that He is also our rewarder

who comes quickly.

Some might say well why hasn’t He came yet?

They say that was thousands of years ago when

Jesus said He was coming quickly.

Why hasn’t He consummated this age yet?

Well, how many knows that the Lord will do

things in His time not ours?

He’s the beginning and the end not us. Amen?

But we as the church don’t need to give up or

become complacent because He hasn’t come to

Sunteleia tou aionos yet.

Because His word says he’s coming quickly.

That word quickly doesn’t mean soon.

The Greek word is Tachu and it means

suddenly, or in a moment.

Kind of like 1 Corinthians 15:52 says in the

twinkling of an eye.

It will be that fast. Amen?

He’ll be here with our rewards in hand.

Whether good or bad. Amen?

Conclusion...

If you’ll only believe that Jesus is Lord.

That He was 100 o/o God and 100 o/o man.

He came to this world the kosmos and died for

your sins,

So that at the consummation of the age or

sunteleia tou aionos,

You would not have to suffer the second death.

If you only believed that He died for your salvation,

And that you could recieve it freely by grace

through faith

then you’ve drank from that fountain.

You are an overcomer,

And He says you shall inherit all things.
