“Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven”.
INTRODUCTION
We cannot pray this prayer unless we are prepared to do God’s will in our own lives.
1. CHRIST DID THE WILL OF GOD
Luke 22:42 "Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done".
John 6:38 "For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me".
Christ put God’s will before His own. Let us do the same.
When we pray, we must submit to the sovereign will of God. We must not demand anything from the Lord. We must humbly bring our requests and accept His answer whether it is yes or no. Aladdin rubbed a lamp and a genie appeared, granting him three unconditional wishes. Sometimes we view God as a genie. God doesn’t always give us what we want but He does give us what is best.
2. CREATION DOES THE WILL OF GOD
Psalm 148:8 "Fire, and hail; snow, and vapours; stormy wind fulfilling his word". The universe is constantly obedient to the will of God.
a) The clouds float through the sky in peaceful obedience to his will.
b) The stars burn and glisten against the night according to his will.
c) The planets roll in their mighty orbits according to his will.
3. CHERUBIM DO THE WILL OF GOD
Psalm 103:20 "Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word".
Angels perfectly obey the will of God in heaven.
a) Angels do God’s will regularly
b) Angels do God’s will readily
Let us follow their example.
CONCLUSION
Remember 1 John 2:17 “And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever”.
My stubborn will at last hath yielded;
I would be Thine, and Thine alone;
And this the prayer my lips are bringing,
Lord, let in me Thy will be done.
Sweet will of God, still fold me closer;
