THE BIBLE – GOD’S INSPIRED WORD

2 Timothy 3:16-17

INTRO: In the world in which we live today, when there is so much dispute about the bible, and so many people don’t believe in God or the

infallibility of the bible.

We need proof and encouragement as to the inspiration of the scriptures.

I. BECAUSE OF THE MEN WHO WROTE IT.

A. The character of the men has never been attacked.

B. Other writers of other books have been subject to much criticism

and attacks (W. A Criswell, Jerry Fallwell, Bailey Smith, Shake

speare, Diogenes)

C. To me, the words of the Bible: "Thus saith the Lord God,"are

enough to believe in the total accuracy of the scriptures.

II. BECAUSE DF THE UNIQUE CHARACTER OF THE BIBLE.

A. Differs from all other books written.

1. Sixty-six books.

2. Thirty-eight writers, covering 1500 yrs., yet closely

connected.

3. Pick out any secular subject and look at all the different

view points in print about them today. Not so with the

Bible.

III. FULFILLMENT OF EVERY PROPHECY.

A. Of every City, Nation, Country.

B. Prophecies of Christ. Isaiah tells of him 600 years beforehand.

C. Micah 600 years even predicted the place of Jesus birth.

D. No other source has this record!

IV. THE TESTIMONY OF THE BIBLE’S ENEMIES.

A. From the very beginning its enemies are forced to speak words in

its favor.

B. Robert Ingersoll said of Christ’s sufferings: "They are wonder

ful."

C. Madylin Murray O’Hare said she read the Bible through in one

weekend, at age 12. She rejected it but said it was a good book.

V. THE TESTIMONY OF SCIENCE.

A. Scientists claimed Job was mistaken about heavens wonders — but

telescopes have proven him right.

B. True science and the bible do not disagree.

C. It is not a book of science, it is a book about science.

VI. THE POWER IT EXERTS IN THE WORLD TODAY.

A. Influence on literature. All great literature has the influence

of the Bible.

B. Huxley said it is the key to the success of all true education.

VII. THE TESTIMONY OF SOCIOLOGY.

A. Did you ever hear of a drunkard, thief, vagabond who read any sec

ular writing and was changed?

B. No, and you won’t.

VIII. BECAUSE OF ITS DURABILITY.

A. Roman emperors tried for 300 yrs. to destroy it.

B. It is still the best selling book ever, today.
