Summary: A message examining the deception of Satan.

SATAN’S FIRST TRANSACTION WITH MAN

Genesis 3:1-7

INTRO: Satan has been a successful trader for over six thousand years. He is constantly trading with men for various items, and man always comes out the loser.

ILLUS: "The Devil and Daniel Webster", written by: Steven Vincent Benet tells of a deal Daniel Webster made with Satan to get what he wanted out of life. The deal was that he will give up his soul to Satan in return.

Now, let’s look at the first trade that Satan made with man.

I. ADAM AND EVE’S INHERITANCE BEFORE SELLING OUT TO SATAN.

A. A beautiful, new, well furnished home (Gen. 2:9).

B. Built, furnished, and decorated by the hand of God.

C. Plenty to eat (Gen. 2:9).

D. Good clothes (dressed with glory).

E. Fellowship with God, comfort and happiness.

II. HOW SATAN MADE THE TRADE WITH THEM.

A. More subtle than any other animal or beast in the garden of

Eden (v. 1).

B. His lies were half-truth. Otherwise he could not deceive (vv.

4-5).

C. If he had appeared like a roaring lion Eve would have fled from

him.

D. Satan knows how to appeal to our weaknesses.

III. WHAT ADAM AND EVE LOST IN THE DEAL.

A. Their home with all its glories. They were driven out (v. 23).

B. They lost their bountiful supply of food. The had to begin

working to supply their needs (verse 19).

C. They lost their fine suit of glory. They became naked (v. 7).

D. They lost their good job, dressing and keeping the garden.

E. They lost their friendship with God. They became afraid and

ashamed (v. 10).

F. They lost their happiness and comfort. Their sorrows were multi

plied (vv. 16-17).

CONC: Satan promises everything, assures the loss of nothing, but in reality he takes everything and gives nothing.
