Summary: The preaching of the word of God is the bridge between heaven and hell to a world that is lost and dying, and we have the words of life. This message reminds us that we have been called to "Preach the Word."

Who Will Preach This Gospel?

by Pastor Donny Granberry

Let’s make our profession together, this is my bible, God’s …

Turn to Matthew 24.

In our text today we find Jesus speaking to his disciples just before he is ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father.

Jesus is describing the events that will be taking place when He returns and the signs to look for.

Matthew 24:3-14 NIV

4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, `I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.

9 "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

I would like to take the 14th verse of that chapter to use as my focus of attention this morning, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

I would like to emphasize a portion of that scripture, “This gospel will be preached.”

I would like to ask a simple, yet profound question today, “Who’s gonna preach this gospel?”

In our missions conference a couple of months ago I used these words from a Cathedral’s Quartet song:

Preach the word, preach the cross, preach redemption to a lost and dying world, lift your voice unashamed, of the gospel of His name, until all have heard, preach the word.

When the disciples came out of the upper room, they immediately began to preach the word, and that very day, 3,000 lives were brought into the kingdom on God.

Luke 24:47 KJV

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Is it any wonder that the first place the gospel was preached after the upper room experience was in Jerusalem, Jesus told them to begin in Jerusalem.

Why” Jerusalem was home.

Too many today will give to missions as hired guns and not go out and preach the word in their own Jerusalem.

I ask you today, “Who will preach this gospel?”

The preaching of the word of God is the bridge between heaven and hell to a world that is lost and dying, and we have the words of life.

Romans 10:14-15 KJV

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Satan today, is planning on you taking this message, and putting it on the back burner, to forget about it.

He will inform you that the task is too great and the work is too hard.

He will tell you that it is impossible for you to make a difference.

One person cannot take on the load of the whole world.

Try telling that to Jesus.

Church, we have not been called on to save the world, be we have been commissioned and ordained to preach the word.

J. W. Tucker did not save anyone in the Republic of the Congos of Africa.

As a matter of fact he was murdered by the Congan people and his body thrown in the Congo River and fed to the crocodiles.

But today, through the blood that Jesus shed, and the martyrdom of Bro. Tucker, the word of God is thriving in the Republic of Congo.

Why? The power of the preached word of God.

THE POWER OF THE WORD

Hebrews 4:12 KJV

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword …

There is great power when we speak the word of God.

Why? Because the word of God was written by divine inspiration from Genesis to maps.

The Holy Spirit spoke to the hearts of the writers and they wrote exactly what was breathed into them.

When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He spoke the word of God.

It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word.

It is written, thou shall serve the Lord thy God, and Him only.

It is written, thou shall not tempt the Lord thy God.

Get thee behind me Satan.

When we preach the word of God, all of the power of Heaven is bestowed upon us.

Power to preach salvation.

Power to heal,

Power to set the captives free,

Power to deliver,

Power to bind the forces of hell,

Power to heal the broken hearted,

Power to open blinded eyes and make the lame to walk.

Power to raise the dead.

You might ask me, Pastor, have you ever raised the dead?

Many times! I have prayed with hundreds of people and watched them pass from death unto life.

I’m talking about he who is in Christ is a new creation, old things have passed away, and behold, all things are new.

I ask you today, “Who will preach this gospel?”

THE WARNING OF THE WORD

2 Corinthians 4:3 KJV

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

Isaiah 62:6 KJV

6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence.

Now that our children are older, it is usually pretty quiet around the house.

No demanding, no loud music (usually), no I want to go here or there, etc.

This weekend, Lindsey and Jason are moving into the home they bought and we are getting to keep Mason and Morgan, and believe me, it has not been quiet around the house.

You do not have to wonder if they are there.

I wonder, do people have to wonder if you are a Christian or is your actions letting the fact be known

We do not have to, and cannot afford to wait on the world to come to us, they are all around us, but we must be a watchman on the wall.

THE SALVATION IN THE WORD

As Simon Peter preached on the day of Pentecost they asked, “What shall we do?”

The spoken word of God will lead to true conviction.

People do not rejecting or criticize you, but Who’s you are and the word you stand for.

The world may mock and criticize, but as long as people continue to get saved, we are going to sing and preach the word of God, and that Jesus is the way and the only way to get to Heaven.

You might ask, “what if nobody comes, to hear you preach?” then I’ll preach to the pews that Jesus is the way.

It is not my job to fill the pew, it is my job to fill the pulpit and to preach the word of God. AMEN!

I have had people to tell me that we are too evangelistic.

If we ever get away from evangelism, we will get away from what God called the church to do.

Satan will always fight and target where people are being saved and filled with the Holy Spirit.

He is always trying to keep people from getting saved, and he will do it in this service.
