“The Finality of God’s Word”

Introduction:

• We need to be reminded of God’s Word

• We need to remain in God’s Word

• We need to receive God’s Word

I. THE REMINDER OF GOD’S WORD (vs. 12-13)

A. Remind

1. It is good for me to remind you

2. It is good to be reminded of the things that you know

B. Retain

1. I know that you are firmly established in these things

2. I know that you are established in the present truth

C. Refresh

1. I will refresh your memory as long as I live

2. I will refresh your memory as long as I live in this body

II. THE REINFORCEMENT OF GOD’S WORD (vs. 14-16)

A. God’s Word will remain

1. Men will perish

2. The earth will pass away

B. God’s Word should be what we remember

C. God’s Word is true

1. Not a collection of stories

2. Not a series of man made fables

D. God’s Word is the Revelation of Christ

1. It is the account of His power

2. It is the account of His coming

III. THE RECEIVING OF GOD’S WORD (vs. 17-21)

A. We were witnesses of His Majesty

1. He received honor and glory

2. He received this from God the Father

3. This voice came from the majestic glory of God

4. God affirmed His love and pleasure towards Jesus

B. We heard this voice

1. It came from Heaven

2. It was heard when we were with Jesus

3. It was when we were on the sacred mountain

C. We have the Word

1. This is the word of the prophets

2. This is a more certain word

3. You should pay attention to the Word

a. Like a light

b. A light shining in the dark place

c. Until the day dawns

d. Until the morning star rises in your hearts

4. We must understand that no prophecy of scripture

a. Came about by the prophet’s interpretation

b. Had its origin in the will of man

c. It came about as men spoke from God

d. It came about as men were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

CONCLUSION: We must remember that God’s Word will never pass away.
