Summary: Here’s a very basic Sunday School lesson on Materialism.

How to get what you want

[7] Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:[8] For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. [9] Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? [10] Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? [11] If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? – Matthew 7:7-11

I. Three ways we can get what we want

a. Ask, it will be given – Use of Voice

i. Prayer is our communication with God

ii. Make time to pray everyday

iii. Be sincere in our prayer life

b. Seek, you will find – Motion of the Body

i. To seek God, we must do more than pray

ii. It is actively doing something to get closer to God

iii. It is a deeper level of our spiritual walk

c. Knock, it will be opened – Effort to open or pass through obstacles

i. Shows that you want fellowship with God

ii. Not only do you have to knock, but you have to enter

II. What do you want from God

a. God wants to give you good gifts

b. God doesn’t always give us what we want, but He always give us what we need - James 4:3

c. God expects us to give back

Final Thought: God wants us to have awesome things, but we have to have the right motives when we ask.
