Summary: Is Jesus receiving what he paid for?

“What does Jesus get out of the cross?”

Ac 20:28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

When Jesus died on the cross, what did he pay for?

1. He paid for us to be holy and blameless

a. 1 Co 6:19-20 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

b. Eph 5:25-27 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

2. He paid for us to serve God

a. Heb 9:12-14 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

b. 1 Pe 1:18 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers,

3. He paid for us to do good deeds

a. Tit 2:14 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

4. He paid for the worship of all nations

a. Re 5:9 9 And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.

b. 1st two Moravian missionaries who sold themselves into slavery in order to reach 3000 slaves on an island in the West Indies. As their ship was setting sail, they shouted over the waters “May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His suffering?

As we break bread I encourage you to pray: “"Lord, Jesus, there is nothing I want more in my life than what You bled to obtain."
