Summary: Our life is like a book. What kind of story have been telling?

Through The Years

Psalm 90:1-9

1 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.

6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

How many tonight realize that God’s ways are timeless?

God does not change because we think that He should.

God is still the same as He was yesterday, today and will be tomorrow.

Moses is saying in verse one of our text that the Lord is our dwelling place and it is that way to all generations.

This is the same as “in Him we live and move, and have our being.”

28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, for we are also his offspring.

29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

We are the offspring of God in him we live, and move, and have our being;

In other words, we are to look to God for everything.

Verse two says that before the mountains were brought forth, or ever before you formed the Earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

There are those who try to pass through life on their own strength and find that it is a way of labor and sorrow.

Those who learn to lean on the arm of Adonai, which is another name for God, will find it a way of joy and rejoicing, even while they are in the wilderness.

The second verse speaks of the creation; the third verse speaks of the fall.

God gave man a choice of eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil or not.

They were told not to, but if they did they would suffer the consequence, which was eternal death.

Ge 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

The latter part of this verse was an appeal for man to return to God.

Psalm 90:4

4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

Man should look at eternity as God looks at eternity. In other words, we should base our actions on the eternal, instead of the temperal.

The sad thing is the majority of the world sells out for the temperal.

A thousand years is not a long time when you look at the eternal, forever and ever.

Psalm 90:5

5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.

1. Verse 2 speaks of the creation.

2. Verse 3 speaks of the fall.

3. Verse 5 speaks of Noahs flood.

In it’s broader meaning, it speaks of death as a flood.

It speaks of life as grass which flourishes for a short while and then is gone.

Isa 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

Psalm 90:6

6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

This is the way that the Holy Spirit describes mans’ life.

Psalm 90:7

7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

The anger and wrath mentioned here speaks of the curse that God placed on the human race because of the fall.

God cannot abide in any sin at all.

Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

If we choose to abide in sin, then the wages of that choice will be death.

Psalm 90:8

8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

This passage means that God will judge sins both secret and open.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Whether you want to accept this or not does not matter, God knows your thoughts and the intents of your hearts.

God’s Word is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow,

Psalm 90:9

9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

Through the years what kind of tale are we telling?

You see, the life that we live is telling a story that one day God is going to go over with us.

The reason why I preached this today:

Dream 11-6-08

I dreamed that I was talking to someone about my “Jesus” dreams. I was adding them up, telling them how many I have had over the years.

Interpretation

Don’t ever be ashamed of what God has revealed unto you.

According to Deuteronomy 29:29, the secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Over the years, God will speak and reveal things to us. Hold onto what it is that He has spoken to you.

Hold onto His Word because in the end it will speak and it will bring life unto you.

Our lives are stories that we are writing through the years. What has been recorded in your book?

When I think about through the years I think about the years of great soldiers of the past.

I think about the 3 Hebrew children as they were getting ready to be thrown into the fiery furnace.

They told the king, “We don’t know if God will deliver us but we know He can but we will not bow down to the idol that you have set up”.

Can you imagine Daniel in the Lions den? The Lord shut up the lion’s mouth.

How about David slaying Goliath? They were all writing their tales as they were living their lives.

Through the years, what tales have you experienced in the Lord?

Are you passing this faith on to your children that they might know so they can pass them on to their children?

Ps 78:4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

Ps 78:6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

Ps 102:18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.

What are some of the works of the Lord that have been shown to us that we are showing to the generation coming up?

God is alive and He still is active in the situations that we go through today.

Jesus is the same today tommorow and forever!

What has been revealed belongs to you and your children, so hold on to God and don’t ever let go.

Preaching through a Dream

Around eleven years ago, God called me to preach. My sister and brother-in-law were at our apartment. My sister asked me when I was going to get busy. I changed the subject. I knew that she meant preaching the Gospel. When they left that night, I told my wife if God wanted me to preach, then He would have to literally tell me, or give me a dream telling me that He wanted me to preach. I felt that I had done too many bad things in my life for God to use me in this way. That night, I went to bed and God gave me a dream. It was a very real dream.

I dreamed that I was at a great big church. We were sitting in the middle section. All of a sudden, I put my arms in the air, praising the Lord, and a light illuminated my body. I started to say, "I’m going to be a preacher! I’m going to be a preacher!" I said this over and over. I put my hands down, and asked my wife what I saying. Was it that I was going to be a preacher of that church? She said, "No, you said that you were going to be a preacher." I was focusing on the preacher of that church, I was wondering what he thought about what was going on. We were leaving the church; we walked to the church entrance/exit, and the greeter said to me, "Congratulations brother". His hand was outstretched. He shook my hand. I woke up!

Through the years I could go on and on about what God has done in my life, couldn’t you?

Ro 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
