Summary: “Jesus came to serve”. We are servants to Jesus and we are to serve one another.

Are We A Servant?

Philippians 2:12-17

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now Are We A Servant?

much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

I have entitled this today, “Are You a Servant?”

A servant is obedient to what his Master says to do. As a Christian today, if you’re a true servant of God then you are obedient to what Jesus says to do.

God has a work for each and every one of us to do. All we have to do is learn to listen and apply what He is speaking.

No matter how tough life seems, a true servant of God will push on and they will overcome the attacks of the enemy.

If we are a true servant of God then we have a friend in Jesus who will help us endeavor whatever we face in this life and we will win.

John 15:14-15

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

We are servants, yes, but we are also considered friends of Jesus.

Are we doing what He tells us to do?

When we do what He tells us to do, then He will reveal things to us.

In Philippians 2:12, it says: Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed,

Paul is commending them for their constant obedience.

Paul says, “not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence”,

They continued to obey the Gospel even though Paul was not personally among them.

He then goes on to say: “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”.

This is referring to growing mature in their walks. They were learning to be Christ-like.

Paul was letting the people know that it God who was doing a work in them.

You see, God has a will for every believer to give all of themselves, all the way over to the things of Him.

In verse 14 Paul was telling the people to do all things with out murmurings and complaining.

How many of us have ever been unhappy about something in this church and you have complained?

Maybe some of us have murmured and complained about another individual of the household of faith.

Get over it, give it to God and move on.

Look at Philippians 2:15

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

We are supposed to be a light that is to compel others to come into the household of faith.

Look at verse 16:

16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

We have to hold forth the Word of God, not let go of what He says.

When we hold forth the Word of God we understand that according to Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”.

When we really hold forth the Word of God, we have an understanding that according to Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD”.

When we really hold forth the Word of God we know according to Isaiah 55:11, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it”.

God’s Word is alive and it is active in the situations we go through.

We have to hold forth the Word of God and let it become alive in our situations.

Church, there is healing in the Word; do you believe that this morning?

Look at Philippians 4:17

17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

Paul was willing to give all that He had in order to do what God had called Him to do.

Paul offered, in the Greek, that means that he poured forth himself.

Are we willing to pour forth all of ourselves in order to see God’s will for our life take place?

I have entitled this today: “Are We A Servant?”

Here’s the reason why:

Dream 11-6-08

I dreamed that Mary and I were in a kitchen of a restaurant. We were busy. When we slowed down Mary asked me about a scripture in the Bible. It was dealing with serving. I said to Mary, “Jesus came to serve”. I said we are servants to Jesus and we are to serve one another.

Interpretation

Romans 12:1

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, Paul is saying I beg of you please.

God wanted all of them; He wanted their bodies to be a living sacrifice, Holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

If we serve Jesus, then we ought to be willing to be a living sacrifice, all of myself is to be given over unto God, holding nothing back.

It all comes back to this, if I am His property, and serving Him, I will come to a place where I realize all that really matters is serving Him.

If I am His property, and am serving Him then I will do what the Word wants me to do, compel others to come into the house of faith.

Luke 14-15-24

15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

There is an urgency to get people into the house of the living God, we need people who will serve, and compel others to come into the fold.

The Rapture of the church is at hand, and there is urgency for people to go out to the highways and byways, and compel them to come in, that God’s house may be filled.

DREAM 2-3-2005

I dreamed Jesus was getting ready to come in the air, I could even see Him preparing behind the clouds. I knew at that moment in time we were living in was grace.

Jesus is getting ready to come, I saw Him behind the clouds preparing.

The Word of God teaches us He’s coming with the clouds, In the dream I knew we were living in grace.

We need to tell people Jesus is coming back, God hasn’t changed His mind.

I really believe we’re living in the final minutes of time.

Tell people to get their house in order.

John 15:14-15

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

If we are obedient to the Word of God, we are more than a servant but we are a friend of Jesus.

But I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Are you a friend of Jesus this morning?

John 3:36 NAS

"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

We all know John 3:16 but few realize John 3:36.

A believer in Jesus is obedient to what Jesus says to do.

End of discussion!

Closing

To whom are you a friend today?

If we’re a friend, then we need to warn people what His Word says to do!

Jesus is coming soon!

Sing song, “Jesus is coming soon!”
