Summary: Do we have things in our lives that God has been dealing with us about? Maybe we do things or say things that we ought not to say or do. It is time to throw away our trash and serve Jesus with a whole heart.

Throwing Away Our Trash

2 Kings 5:1-8

1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

4 And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

5 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

7 And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.

8 And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

I have entitled this today: “Throwing Away Our Trash”

Leprosy in the Old Testament was a type of the Spiritual condition of unregenerate man.

There was no earthly cure for Leprosy, just as there is no earthly cure for sin.

Naaman was Captain of the host of the king of Syria, He was a great man with his master, and He was honorable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour,

All of these great things said about Naaman in verse one did not save or heal him; he was still a leper.

And so are the untold millions in the world who think their state, status and position mean something with God, they don’t.

2 Kings 5:2

2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

This “little maid” would figure prominately in history; the Holy Spirit does not even give her name; however her testomony would affect nations.

It would have been very easy for her to be bitter, morose and angry toward God, for Him allowing her to be taken captive away from her land and her family and made a slave in Syria.

She exhibited none of these evil traits, she retained her testimony. The things that she did not understand, she left in the hands of God. What an example!

2 Kings 5:3

3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

In effect what she is saying, “I know somebody who knows somebody who knows what to do for you.

One went in and told his Lord, saying, thus and thus saith the maid that is of the land of Israel.

2 kings 5:5

5 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

Man, in reality, has always been trying to buy something from God, when in reality the Lord has nothing for sale; it is all a free gift.

John 3:16

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2 Kings 5:6-8

Man, who is living in sin, when tragedy strikes will usually look for answers in a Godly man or woman.

They are looking for the answers that we have because they know whom we serve, and that there is hope in Him.

It was obvious that the King of Israel was upset at such a request, so the news came to Elisha; the Prophet who says, bring him to me.

2 Kings 5:9-10

9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.

Naaman was not expecting to hear what he heard, he thought that all he had to do was come to the Prophet of God and all would be well.

Naaman was told to “Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and his flesh would come again to him, and he would be clean”.

We need to understand faith without works is dead.

If God tells us what to do in order to receive our Miracle, then we have to do what He says.

If we don’t, then what has been spoken to us will never take place.

Ephesians 5:26-27

Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

We need the washing of water by the Word, that we might become a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle.

The reason why I preached this today:

Dream 7-31-09

I dreamed that I was cleaning up trash on a hill by a church. I also dreamed that a wife told her husband to put the trash in the trash can.

Interpretation

This is a double dream so God is establishing something that He wants us to deal with.

The church, in general, has trash in and around it and it needs cleaned up.

Do you have trash that you do outside the church? God knows!

Ephesians 5:26-27

Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

2 Kings 5:11

11 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

Naaman was mad because what he thought was going to take place never happened.

Naaman was a powerful man and warranted he thought, more than what had just happened.

Entire nations trembled at his presence; after all he was a mighty millitary man.

All of this was pride which is the crowning on the human race.

Pride is the reason that most never receive from God.

Every individual must come to the Lord the same way, the great, the rich, the poor, the small; they are all the same to the Lord.

In verse 12, Nathan says: Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? May I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

These two rivers that Nathan mentioned were some of the cleanest streams in the world, so why the muddy Jordan?

The Jordan, at this time, was a type of Calvary, yes it is muddy, yes there are other rivers much more beautiful, but there are no healing qualities in other rivers.

Jesus is our great physician and all He wants us to do is what He speaks.

2 Kings 5:13-14

13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

Obedience is better than sacrifice!

Men are ever asking, “What can I do to earn salvation?” Most of the world is trying to earn salvation by good works.

In reality, all one has to do is come to Calvary and be washed and made clean.

Washing of the Word!

Why dip 7 times in the Jordon? 7 is God’s complete work and complete redemption.

Salvation makes the man whole. How many have dipped into the waters of Calvary and have seen all of their sins washed away?

Man is spiritually dirty; this dirt can not be cleansed by the soap of this world, but by the precious Blood of Jesus Christ.

Maybe we need to throw away our trash.

Do we have things in our lives that God has been dealing with us about?

Maybe we do things or say things that we ought not to say or do.

It is time to throw away our trash and serve Jesus with a whole heart.

Naaman needed a Miracle that was going to come from the man of God, understand it was God working through the Prophet.

Do you need a Miracle today?

Are you willing to be obedient to the Word of the Lord?

Closing

Nathan realized if he did not have obedience to the Word than his miracle would never be received.

Dream or Vision - I don’t know.

I saw Jesus; I remember His face features, brownish beard and hair. He told me that He couldn’t do some things for certain people because of willful disobedience.

This does not need an interpretation.

Willful disobedience is sin, and God cannot bless sin of any kind.

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

We need to turn away from our wicked ways!

God has made a Covenant with you. If you ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and come into your heart, He will.

That’s a promise that you can take to the bank!

Do you need a Miracle today? Come up around the Altars and let’s ask God for what we need.

Church, it is time to throw away our trash and receive what God has for us!
