Summary: Jesus said whatsoever you ask in my name I will do it. We must ask it wrapped up in His name.

Scriptures: Genesis 25:21-25. “And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she [was] barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If [it be] so, why [am] I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD. And the LORD said unto her, Two nations [are] in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and [the one] people shall be stronger than [the other] people; and the elder shall serve the younger. And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, [there were] twins in her womb. And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau’.

Gen 27:1-5, 15&16, 21-23. “And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, [here am] I. And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death: Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me [some] venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring [it] to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt [for] venison, [and] to bring [it]. 15&16 “And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which [were] with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck: 21-23. “And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou [be] my very son Esau or not And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice [is] Jacob’s voice, but the hands [are] the hands of Esau And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau’s hands: so he blessed him”..

John 14:13. “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son”.

Opening: Someone may be wondering just how all these scriptures go together, well if you give me about 4 or 5 hours I promise I will break them down for you.

There is a saying that goes the Old Testament is the New Testament hid and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. Thank God for revelation.

Ecclesiastes 1:9 says “The thing that hath been, it [is that] which shall be; and that which is done [is] that which shall be done: and [there is] no new [thing] under the sun”.

Matthew 5:17 says “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill”.

Therefore, with these verses we are going to see something done in the Old Testament, the benefits that it produced, and then be told how to do it in the New Testament. We are living in the New Testament right now.

In MY Name

IN - According to the dictionary the word “IN” is a function word that indicates inclusion, location, and position. It also indicates by means of as well as limitation, qualification, purpose, power, operation, and circumstance.

MY – according to the dictionary means of or relating to me or myself as possessor, agent, object, or an action, a familiar person.

NAME – according to the dictionary is that which constitutes the distinctive designation of a person or thing. In other words it says who I am.

Something about that NAME.

TEXT:- Isaac’s wife Rebekah was barren. Isaac prayed for God to remove the curse of her barrenness and allow her to become pregnant. Understand that there was a certain stigma associated with a woman that was barren it was believed that she had sinned against God and this was the punishment that God placed upon her. So Isaac prayed that the curse of barrenness be removed and the stigma associated with it would be gone. Rebekah become pregnant, not with one child but with twins 25:23. Talk about doing exceeding abundantly above all you ask or think.

Vs #25 says “And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau “. The first came out red and hairy and they name him Esau. This is very important as a matter of fact it’s the essence of this message. Understand that the first born son was a place of honor and respect. In some cultures this is still true today, but in this day and time it was the norm. The first born son received a double portion of inheritance because by being the first born son, if something happened to the father it was his responsibility to ensure the family and the business of the family was carried on in a proper manner. He literally became the head of the family and of the house. Any son born after the first born only received a portion, but the first born son received a double portion.

Ladies, I’m sorry the custom did not apply to the daughters, they didn’t receive a portion at all, because it was presumed that she would get married and her husband would take care of her. But that was the Old Testament in the New Testament the Bible says in John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name”. He gave you the power to become the sons of God so that you could receive your portion of the Father’s inheritance. In other words he made sure that you got your portion too.

So we see the first born son is the place of honor and of blessing. Esau was destined to receive a blessing based upon his position. However, Esau became comfortable in his position and because of his comfortability he became careless and unconcerned and he sold his birthright for a temporary moment of pleasure and because he sold his birthright he was going to loose his blessing. Hebrew 12:16-17.

Don’t become some comfortable with your current position that you loose your blessing. If you’re saved don’t become comfortable where you are right now, but seek higher heights and deeper depths in God. Understand that there is much more to this life in Christ then what you have right now. There’s more to this life then Sunday morning worship, there’s more to this then Bible class. So don’t become comfortable with your position, but strive to go higher and deeper in the Lord. If you’re not saved get saved. Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus, receive ye the Holy Ghost and press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus.

In MY Name

Well if we fast forward about 60 years or so we come to the 27th chapter. Isaac is now a old man. His eyes are dim so that he can’t see. He calls Esau his eldest son (his first born son). Isaac knows that he is old and that soon he will die so he is about to give Esau his blessing forgetting the fact that some 60 years earlier God said to Rebekah the elder shall serve the younger.

He tells Esau I’m going to bless you, I’m going to give you your inheritance, because I am about to die. But before I do I want you to go hunt a deer make me that good savoury meat you make that makes me so happy. Once you have done that and I have eaten the venison I will bless thee.

Understand that there is dysfunction in Isaac’s family. Isaac loved Esau because that was his first born son. That was daddy’s little man. Rebekah loved Jacob more because he was the baby. He was a momma’s boy. He hung around her apron strings and she favored Jacob more than Esau.

Rebekah heard what Isaac was about to do so she called Jacob and told Jacob to go to Isaac with savoury meat and get Esau’s blessing. She knew how to make the savoury meat because she no doubt showed Esau how to make it.

Jacob said surely this plan will not work for he will know that I am not Esau and instead of blessing me will curse me. Rebekah said don’t worry about it, let the curse be upon me, everything will be alright because I got a plan.

Ch 27 vs #15-17 – Rebekah took some of Esau’s stuff and put them upon Jacob. She took the skin of the goat and put it on Jacob’s hands and around his neck. She gave him the savoury meat that she had prepared and sent him into Isaac.

Vs 18-19 – This is the key here: Isaac said “Who art thou” Jacob said unto his father I am Esau. Isaac said you sound like Jacob, come close so I can touch you. Jacob comes close to Isaac, Isaac reaches out grabs him around the neck pulls him close to him and smells him. Isaac then says you sound like Jacob, but you smell and feel like Esau. He asked in vs. 24 “Art thou my son Esau”? He said I am! And then he received Esau’s blessing.

Jacob received Esau’s blessing because he went into his father not as Jacob, but as Esau.

Someone might say well he received the blessing by means of deception. Yes in the natural it was done by deception, but remember back in the 25th chapter some 60 years earlier it was foretold from God, who is spirit and operates spiritually that the elder would serve the younger. When the spiritual is manifested in the natural it’s contrary to what we are accustomed to. God said my ways are not your ways and my thoughts are not your thoughts. So what may seem like deception to us in the natural was literally a blueprint of something that must be done in the spiritual. Someone might be saying explain yourself preacher because you seem to getting out there a bit.

Remember I said there is a saying that says the Old Testament is the New Testament hid and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. Well in this part of history something was done and the mystery hid, but when we come into the New Testament God gives revelation.

John 14:13 says “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son”.

Romans 8:29 says “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren”.

Here is revelation. This is talking about Jesus, whom God did foreknow because He is literally the Logos or thought of God. He is the expressed image of God. He is not a man that became a god as the Gnostics say because of some higher level of thinking, but is in fact the Logos, the very thought of God manifested in the flesh, the expression of God. God in the beginning knew that man was going to fail, but he loved man His creation so much that He made preparation for lost man to be reconciled into a proper relationship with Him the Holy God. He knew that man could never be able to approach Him for He is Holy and man is unholy. So He said I will put on flesh like man and show man how to be Holy while in flesh. So the Logos became flesh and dwelt among us. He didn’t become a god because of his thinking, He is God. He is Theanthropos the Godman. He is 100% God and 100% man.

→ As man he wept, but as God He will wipe all your tears away.

→ As man he thirst, but as God He is a well of living water.

→ As man he got tired and fell asleep in the back of a boat, but as God He stood in the boat in the middle of a storm and told the wind and sea peace be still and they obeyed.

→ As man he got agitated with his mother, but as God He turned water into wine.

→ As man He didn’t want to die, but as God He can’t die.

→ As man he died, but as God He rose Himself up in 3 days.

What a God, What a God, What a mighty good God.

WATCH THIS:- He conformed to the image of his Son, WHY so that He might be the FIRSTBORN among many brethren. Remember the first born received the double portion blessing. Jacob received Esau’s portion because he went to his father as Esau. If he would have came to Isaac any other way he would not have received the blessing. Jesus tells us that whatsoever we ask in his name that will I do.

In other words in order to get the blessing you have to go to God the Father wrapped up, tied up, and tangled up in JESUS. Just like Jacob put on Esau and approached his father in the name of Esau so we must approach the Father in the name of Jesus.

Paul put it this way in Ephesians 6. Put on the whole armour of God.

Ω having your loins girt about with truth – what is truth. Jesus said in John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me’. So truth is Jesus.

Ω breastplate of Righteousness – what is our righteousness. Jeremiah 23:6 & 33:16 says “and this [is] his name whereby he shall be called, Jehovah Tsidkenu THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”. Jesus

Ω Feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace – what is our peace. Isaiah 9:6 says “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”. Jesus

Ω having the shield of faith what is our faith. Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for” The song writer got hold of it and put it this way “my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ and righteousness”. So my faith (hope) is Jesus.

Ω helmet of salvation – what is our helmet. Philippians 2:5 says “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”. So the helmet of salvation is the mind of Christ. Jesus

Ω above all the sword of the spirit which is the word of God. John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. Verse 14 says “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us”. What is the name of the flesh JESUS.

So when I’m wrapped up, tied up, and tangled up in Jesus then I can get the blessing. Not because I deceived anyone, but because I came in the name of my big brother.

We have had it wrong for so long. We say in the name of Jesus, but we use it as with the name of Jesus. However, we must be as the saying goes in it to win it.

Let me give you an example: Noah wasn’t with the ark beside him that would not have done him any good. But Noah was in the ark. Because Noah was in the ark and not just with the ark, when the flood came that was designed to destroyed mankind and all the creatures upon the face of the earth, it couldn’t touch Noah, his family, or any of the animal because they were on the inside of the ark.

The ark represents JESUS.

When we are in the name of Jesus, wrapped up, tied up, and tangled up in Him that thing that was designed to destroy you won’t be able to do you no harm because I’m in the name.

The song writer put it this way “In the name of Jesus I got the victory. In the name of Jesus demons have to flee.

You got to be in it to win.

In the name of Jesus.

Jonathan Butler said it like this In His arms I feel protected. In His arms never disconnected. There’s no place I rather be.

Jesus said whatsoever you ask IN MY NAME I will do it. That’s a promise, He cannot lie, so.

If you need healing - There’s healing in the name of Jesus.

If you need deliverance - There’s deliverance in the name of Jesus.

If your lost and on your way to hell - There’s salvation in the name of Jesus.

If you’re sad - There’s joy unspeakable in the name of Jesus.

If you can’t find peace - There’s peace that passeth all understanding in the name of Jesus.

If it seems all hope is gone - There’s hope for tomorrow in the name of Jesus.

If your finances are gone – there’s wealth of the wicked laid up for you in the name of Jesus.

If you’re weary – there’s rest in the name of Jesus.

If you want it God’s got it He has everything that you need you just got to come IN MY NAME – What’s His name - JESUS.
